Multicultural Weekend 2008

wait if you spent time abroad in a foreign country you have a chance of being invited to this? I spent a year in Turkey and wrote about it in my essay. Would this be enough to be invited? Oh well. The water balloon fight sounds like fun though. Isn't it usually with colored paints though?

in past posts it looks like all admitted students are invited. maybe they just let certain candidates know about it ahead of time?

Not everyone is invited to multicultural weekend.

where is OP?

Per my check of old threads, people would get the invitations for the weekend around March 12 - 14th.

My S received his invitation (2006) same time as the scholarship, March 1st. Last year my D got it on the last week of February, but she was ED so I don't know if that counts.
I believe this year the Multicultural Weekend is a little earlier than before, maybe the invitations would be also earlier.

so is it just minority students who get invited, or anyone? I think it would defeat the purpose of the weekend if only minority applicants were invited to attend. Does anyone know the basis for how they choose?

I have no idea how they choose, because they invite around 300 kids (I'm not sure about the number, it is just a guess), some from the ED round, some RD y many internationals or kids that lived in another country for a while.

but then doesn't it say on the website that admitted students can visit any time in april? so what do they do then - specify if one is admitted that one can visit any weekend except that one - or say one can visit then but can't participate? it doesn't seem fair that one would've had to have lived in another country or done something along such lines to be invited. after all, such occurences are usually out of student's hands.

okay. I called WashU today and they said that the invitations have been sent out or they're about to be and also the dates for the weekend are April 10-13. FYI

thanks, bebegrl976!

what do you be...they're about to be...is there another wave of multicultural invitations?????

There was a FIRSTwave?! Did we miss it?! Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!!

yeah...there was a first wave....

wait, can anyone confirm a first wave???
eeek!

I got an invite in the mail today....don't know which wave it's in though lol

Waves? Don't they send tsunamis?

I believe "hurricane" is the proper term actually :/

i got an invite today with my early notification letter. not sure if i can go yet, though.

yea, I just got invited too. but I'm indian, and not usually considered a minority in the college application world. I'm curious about whether or not the invitations are only sent to minorities. either way, I'm excited to be in!!

im korean, not usually counted in the minority group either lol.
