Multiple people from my school are ED to Washington University in St.Louis - what are my chances!?!

I go to a small private all-girls high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am applying early decision to WashU. My ACT score and grades are up to WashU’s standards. My essay is really good, my extracurriculars are good, and my letters of rec are good too. Basically, I know that I am a great candidate for admission into WashU, and my college counselors have told me this as well (not to sound conceited). However, I recently found out that two girls from my SAME school committed to WashU for sports already. Also, another girl from my high school is applying ED to WashU and she has a better test score than me AND her sister goes to WashU - so she has a better chance of admission than I do. To make it even worse, an abnormally large number of people are applying to WashU from surrounding private schools in the Philly area. One girl from another all-girls private school, and two other people from a coed private school. We are all great candidates for WashU, and my high school has a pretty good relationship with WashU. I guess my question is, will all these applicants from my high school and surrounding highschools negatively impact my chance of admission into WashU? Will they compare me to these applicants? And if two of the girls that are going to WashU from my high school for sports be compared to me or are they evaluated differently? Mostly everyone from my school who applies ED to WashU gets in, but we have never had so many people apply ED in one year.

No. WUSTL will admit whom they want from where they want – there aren’t quotas per school. Sports recruits ARE evaluated differently and don’t affect your chances unless you’re in the same sport.

Given your school’s positive outcome history and your GC’s encouraging words, these should allay your fears. Go enjoy your senior year!

@T26E4 Thank you!!! Is this true for all schools or is it just for WashU?

@T26E4 Also I know that I am the only girl from my high school applying to the business school, so will I be competing against everyone in the entire applicant pool for admission or only those applying to the business school?

Lol I have the same problem. About 10 people in my school are applying ED to Wash U. However, Wash U particularly likes my school for some reason so we usually get in about 6-7 kids in for ED. I think it kind of depends on what school you go to may depend on how many people they take. Best of luck though

@ssing714 what part of the country are you from? ughhh I’m so worried

Central NJ and very competitive… Good news is though that they accept over a third of applicants for ED if that makes you feel any better.

My school is very competitive as well. We have a record number of kids applying to WashU from the Philly area this year, and we are all very competitive applicants…I know we would all be great fits, but they can’t accept us all! @ssing714

Agh I hope we all get in

haha I live in the St. Louis area and there’s 17 kids applying ED. Last year, 20 kids applied and 15 got in

anyways to answer your question I don’t think wustl will put a quota on the amount of students they accept from each school. If you’re qualified, they will take you
