I will take part in a MUN ( Model United Nations), during spring in New York.
I wonder if it's a good chance to show my skills. How will USA's colleges consider this EC's ?
Is it a great shot?

MUN seems to be one of the more standard ECs among CC members. Probably won’t help you any more with college admissions than violin lessons.

I thought it was a good opportunity, cause I am an int. student and because it’s not very common in my country. However I will take this Ec’s and I hope to win something in NY.

Do you know Scholar’s cup?
I could take part in the world final contest ( I will be the first italian student of ever) in kuala lumpur during summer, does it worth? I mean, I would like to partecipate because I think that it’s a great shot to express my skills and to have fun; but it’s a long trip and I was wondering if it could help me through the admission process in some way.

Participation in the World Scholar’s Cup won’t add to your application any more than a family vacation to Malaysia. Anyone can sign up for the event as long as they can afford the travel, no?

Let me ask you this: do you have any ECs that involve a regular continued commitment? Something where you have worked your way up over years, built skills over time, demonstrated perseverance and leadership? Anything that involves engagement with your local community?

Let me think:
- I am designing a space settlement for a Nasa’s contest.
- I am a FSF’s volunteer, I have done many translation and I support the Free Software Foundation through lectures at school and at the universities.
- I have played waterpolo 11 hours per week last year.
- I have been writing for the school newspaper for the last three years.
- I have been class president.
- I am involved in a written contest called " Scienza Narrata".
- I have been working with the math school team for a while.
- I have taken part in many School Olympiads. ( I wanted to pass the first selection of physics olympiad, becuase I wanted to do more. I studied the program of two years in two months and I failed, my mind was going to overwhelm me. )
- I mantain my own website, spreading out what free software is and why science is good.
- I did 120 hours of volunteering for a charity bookshop in Eastbourne (near London).
- I am playing judo 5 hrs per week.

I am very concerned with science; I would like to build a particle accelerator in my house next year, just for fun with a team of nerd.

I am gonna work this summer in Eastbourne again, just to improve my english in order to get a great score at SAT. I also need to study physics, because I want to gain what I lost this year during my senior year.

Does my life worth? -.-’
Where should I focus on?

I didn’t mean just the participation, I want to go to Kuala Lumpur in order to win everything I could win.

I am sorry if I offended you. Just try to see how your posts look from another perspective: “Is this expensive activity impressive to college admissions? No? What about that other expensive one-time gig?”

I have been a little bit silly!
I apologise.

I just want to find something that mirrors what I am.
" A ****ing nerd who wants to win the Noble Prize. " xD

Hahaha. Good luck!

During all my short life, I have learned just a thing.
“It’s not important where you graduate”; what I want to say is that if you are a genius you will be able to change people mind from a community college. Many years ago there was a man, who was considered so intelligent, cause it wasn’t brilliant at school. Afterwards He said that Newton was wrong and he was right.

Many years ago physics teachers could make seminal discoveries with the equipment in their high school laboratory. Times have changed.

So go ahead and shoot for Princeton, because where you graduate from does matter!

Are you doing NHSMUN (National High School Model UN)? Some people in my school are doing it to (I couldn’t go this time around for certain reasons…). According to the teacher in my school that directs it, NHSMUN has so many people that if you are in a General Assembly committee, you will barely get to talk, and if you’re in a sspecialized one, the competition is ridiculous.

So, if you stand out or at least seem to get support at NHSMUN (this whole time I’m assuming the Model UN is NHSMUN because it has many international people who come), it would be not only a great experience but look really good as well.

Plus, maybe you’ll strike up a conversation with an actual UN representative… who knows ;)

I am gonna take part in UNA-USA MUN in May. The N.H.S.M.U.N. will be held in New York in early spring.

It matters, but if you are a genius you will be able to do great things in a community college. Einstein studied in Zurich. I am not Einstein, so I will shoot for Princeton without any doubts, keeping my finger crossed xD.

TBH, my friends participated in WSC (and they got the top awards) and it is not easy to win and get medals. There are quite a lot of things to be studied.

However, I do agree that it won’t add to your application if you don’t win anything.

If I decide to take part in I will form a group in order to win and kick all the as***.
I am not gonna lose my money.
