Music Industry complementary minors?

Hey everybody,
I was just accepted into the University of New Haven and University of Hartford :) but I AM definitely going to New Haven lol :D... I'm majoring in Music Industry and I want possibly double MINOR in either Psych or Philosophy and Entrep. or Writing... can someone help me decide on which two minors would help me in my music business career? As of right now I'm thinking of creating a label, but I'm not too sure yet. Thanks!

Meshaboo,

Congratulations. For completeness’ sake in the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1260441-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2012-a.html</a> can you tell me what program you were accepted for at the University of Hartford? I presume it would be through the Hartt school there.

For Hartford I applied undecided; I was going to apply to the Hartt school but I would have had to audition; I am unable to audition because my musical skills are low. UNH’s program requires no audition and that’s why I’m an Music Industry major there and undecided at Hartford. I hope that makes sense

I understand. I will remove Hartford from the list because it was not specifically for a music major. Please let us know about acceptances from any other schools that are in Music Industry, or somehow related to music even if you do not plan to attend any of them.

Okay no problem!

Also add Information Technology vs Computer Science to that list of possible minors

Hello, Meshaboo. Congratulations! Sounds like you have an exciting road ahead of you.
As far as the minors, you might want to wait until you enroll, and get a chance to speak to your advisors. No need to plan everything right now. Don’t forget to save time for practical experiences like volunteering or interships, or even a job. These activities may go a lot farther at helping your career than a minor. Best of luck!

I totally agree with CLRN8MOM’s advice. It’s great that you are considering a minor now, but there is no need at all for you to commit to one yet. Take some college classes, discover what you are really interested in, and then make your decisions.

Some music industry programs are more oriented towards business, some are more oriented towards technical skills such as recording and producing (mixing, midi, etc). You may want to consider minoring in whatever your music industry program is weakest in. So if it is not very business oriented, then minor in business or entrapanureship. If it is business oriented, then minor in some sort of technical subject such as computer science, or info technolgy.

Also, English or any type of communications subject always makes a great minor simply because so many people simply can’t communicate well.

As far as psychology or phillosophy, they are both very interesting subjects, sure take a class or two in both subjects. My music major son found his psycology 101 to be his favorite class last semester and he will be taking a phil class next semester. But you need to realize that virtually every college student who doesn’t have a particular interest majors in psychology. As a matter of fact, psychology has recently been placed on a list of highest unemployment rates (like 28%). And I have NEVER seen a job advertisement for a philospher. Never ever.
