what colleges have the most musically knowledgeable students? When it's springtime and I'm deciding between colleges, knowing I might be rooming with a Britney Spears might influence my decision. I realize every university will have kids like that, but which (from your experience or knowledge) have the best taste in music? I hear the university of north texas has a nice music scene...

UNT has lots of great music, especially in the area of jazz. Indiana University has one of the best classical music programs in the nation, as well as other kinds of music. Of course, both of these schools also have many other programs, so there is no guarantee that you will get a roommate who is into good music.
Good luck, however!

One person's music is another person's nightmare. Good Luck. Music saavy implies knowledge but I think you are really speaking about preference.

many colleges will have a question regarding music on their roommate matching questionnaires.

Are you a musician or a consumer? What is your criteria for knowledge? Saavy?

not necessarily, for example, I have a friend who is an aficionado of rap music. I don't "hate" rap but I don't appreciate it. We are still very good buddies though and though I don't like his preferences I respect his in-depth knowledge of rap and its culture. What I'm trying to say is, I'd rather have a roomate who is crazy and passionate about rap enough to know its influences, contreversies, etc... not some radioslave who who listens to mainstream rap just to fit in. Now if my roomate likes polka...

musician or consumer? lol. I'm neither. my criteria for knowledge? certainly not "name 5 _______ albums" or " 10 ______ songs" I want someone who may like a different type of music, or a band or singer I don't enjoy, and can defend himself. Let's just say I'm a fan.
