music scene at Penn State..

I'm really into music and like going to see good local bands as well as national acts. I've heard that the music scene isn't all that great in State College, but with a school as large as PSU, there must be some good bands.. right?

Also, are there a decent amount of venues? Here in Tucson I can see a few good concerts a week if I wish, whats it like in State College?

On a separate note, I know that partying/drinking is huge there-which I don't have a problem with-but what else is there to do?

Dylan is at the new baseball stadium on Sept 3. Looks like a great new venue for concerts in the future. Bryce Jordan also gets top names. Beyond that, it seems that there are local bars that bring in live music.

There isn't anything like Club Congress but a scene exists:

Thanks a lot dudedad.
Have you lived in Tucson?

I know the music scene fairly well in State College. It is not as good as some campuses and certainly not big city atmosphere. You will get a variety of national and regional acts through though. Just a few off of the top of me head in the last year or so include:

Sheryl Crow
Michelle Branch
Casting Crowns
Yellowcard
Death Cab for Cutie
Maroon 5
Hawthorne Heights

Again, I don't know your taste so I gave you a variety. There are several venues for local bands. Many local bands play covers or a 50/50 cover original mix. You have reggae, blues, rock, country, etc. Plus, you can always travel to philly, pittsburgh, baltimore, wash DC, or even NYC to see a favorite band. All of those cities are less than 4 hours away by car.
