Next year I'm going to be a Junior in high school and I'm going to try to take as many AP courses as possible. A few AP classes I'm thinking of signing up for are Music Theory, Art, and Computer Science.

Assuming that I get all 5's on these three courses, will they help in addition to my other AP classes? Or will I just be wasting my time.

The reason that I'm unsure of whether they will actually help on my college application is because the courses are not really core classes, with exception to Computer Science, which is technically a math course.

They’re still AP’s! And those are really good AP’s to have. If you have legitimate interest in those subjects, go for it!

One of my friends is in AP Music Theory now and she absolutely loves it. Her sister is an excellent artist, and she’s in AP Art. Though if you meant AP Art History, that’s a good course too - I know a few people that have taken it and they all thought it was interesting.

But that’s because they were interested in it! Are you?

@Pink: Yes, I’m interested in all of those courses, especially AP Music Theory and AP Art. I’ve been playing piano and around 7 years and I’ve been drawing since I was able to hold a pencil.

They’re both subjects I’m passionate about and I have various awards in state and local competitions for both piano and art, but I’m not sure if colleges are only interested in AP courses like “AP Calc BC”, “AP Economics”, “AP Chemistry”, etc.
