Musical Theater Prescreens - Class of 2022 (process/response)

Thanks @artskids and @CTDramaMom I’m bringing my father with me since he’s been asking to attend an audition with his grandson. I will definitely bring some school work and be prepared to enjoy everything Pittsburgh has to offer.
Is there generally time for them to snack between each of the steps in the process? I’m thinking some fruit and plenty of water will be his best bet.

We had small bags of almonds, clementines, power bars, water just in case. Some schools will feed you (and your kids!).

@mommafaria no, we haven’t heard from Michigan but since one of my D’s recommenders was going to be unable to to submit her rec any time soon, I called to find out whether she should cancel that one (since only 1 was required, but I thought the open item could be holding up her application). Anyway, I was told that she would hear later this week-- apparently, none of her recommendations were in before 10/27 so she wasn’t in the early batch for responses.

@TwoBusyMom your response has made my night. Sending good thoughts your way.

Good luck to all this weekend! We are headed to JMU!

Thanks @mommafaria!

Us too @anotherBwaymom  Here’s to a great audition!

My daughter is a freshman MT at Michigan and extremely happy there. I only looked at this thread as she heard a close friend didn’t pass the pre-screen and I realized results were out. I noticed so many people asking about what kind of resume to submit. In my opinion - nobody wants to read a resume longer than 1 page - so really don’t overthink it! My daughter’s resume focused on all shows done during her high school years (both in and outside of school). It highlighted special awards (especially things like Young Arts, etc.). It had a section on summer intensives and who she studied with. And it listed classes that were academically relevant - AP Music Theory for example.
We found that interview panels used her resume to ask her about people she worked with and looked at her list of shows to ask her about parts she had played and based on those parts they sometimes asked her to sing additional songs from her book. I think you want important relevant information on your resume - they have so many to look at. Anyway that’s just my two cents for what it’s worth!
If you have other questions about Michigan I am happy to share our experience. It’s a dream come true.
BAL to everyone!! <3

No-mine hasn’t started either!

Yes- mine just closed a show too, so have been too busy. Getting stressed by how far ahead you all are!

Thank you @collegemom2000

My D just submitted her last application and prescreen last night. I’m so excited for her to go on this journey! The “no’s” really stink, especially the first one, but the “YES’s” are awesome! I am thankful for the helpful insight on this thread and others. It is reassuring to see others having the same thoughts and feelings as us! My D has her first audition this weekend and I am looking forward to the next few months of exciting times. Good luck to everyone and stay positive!

@jenniferm1973 Ditto to your whole post!

How long did it take to hear back for those who sent prescreens to Penn State? We are waiting to schedule a few other auditions based on this decision. Are schools usually flexible if you need to change around audition dates and times with enough notice? Scheduling auditions (especially at unifieds) has me all kinds of stressed out while S is happy as a clam his prescreens are finally done! BAL to all! Best wishes for everyone auditioning this weekend

This forum has proved invaluable. Figured I would provide some info on turnaround on my S prescreens as people wait. Seems all are different. Son sent in five prescreens in past week. Heard yes from Pace in less than 24 hours and 36 hours from Temple and Michigan. I was shocked at the quick turnaround. We still await Ithaca and Syracuse.

Also on Michigan: we included no pre HS performance. And did not list community service (as that is on common app). We felt best to keep the resume to one page. At end of day they are watching the performance. The resume is likely more for background info.

I think I am learning not to overthink it which is easy to say and tough to do.

@PaMTmom We heard from Penn State on 10/30. Curious where in PA you are? To answer your question about switching dates, as far as dates that are scheduled on Accept’d, you can switch pretty easily. As far as others, as long as there are spots open, I have heard that it is pretty easy to switch.

@mommafaria, when my daughter auditioned at Point Park in 2015, there was a lunch break. She opted not to eat as is her way during auditions. A cc mom I finally met, a mom I met at the audition and I walked over to Market Square for lunch. There are a lot of options there and it’s only a few blocks away. Hopefully, they’re still building that break into the schedule.

Point Park auditions are scheduled to be over at 1:30, i think, so I’m thinking there won’t be a lunch break?

@mommafaria - Can you tell us when you submitted his prescreen?
