Musical Theater Prescreens - Class of 2022 (process/response)

We got a no on Friday :frowning:

Just heard my S got a Yes from Ithaca! The Prescreen process is finally done. Now to focus on the next steps in the process. We are off to Point Park this weekend. Positive thoughts sent everyone’s way.

@jenniferm1973 do you mind me asking what you decided to do with your daughters Michigan resume? We are in a similar boat. S doesn’t want to list ALL of his shows from elementary/middle school but we do want to follow the directions. If he has 15+ shows already listed without going back that far, isn’t that enough? I also don’t want to bother the school with this question as we’ve already asked them several and I don’t want him ‘flagged’ for being needy!

@PaMTmom not sure schools flag kids for being “needy.” They know the prescreen process is a complex process. I am not sure parents should contact the school re prescreen acceptance/rejection decisions though, I am just talking process/application/scheduling questions. If anyone thinks differently I’d love to hear. I haven’t found myself calling any depts yet, but I know I have emailed some a couple questions. Feedback would be helpful if that would cause a school to flag our kids.

@PaMTmom I received an email back from somebody at Syracuse who said that, in fact, they are interested in knowing all performances, dates and with whom they were with for their Theatrical resume. I have to go back and look, but I think that Michigan is similar where it asks for performances, volunteer and maybe something else…The Syracuse resume was also explained by someone on this thread who has a son who was accepted there. I have reached out to a couple of schools for other questions and everyone I have been in contact with has been very helpful. For the most part, everyone seems to be very understanding of this process and that is very nice!

So, to answer your question, my daughter is going to submit her Theatrical resume to Syracuse and I have to look back at the specifics for Michigan, but whatever it says, she will do. Hope this helps. Good luck!

@jenniferm1973 My D did not list shows from her younger years on her Michigan resume. Her coach had strongly emphasized that resumes should only cover high school, so I did not take the “all” literally for Michigan. But it might be better to hear from someone who has passed the Michigan prescreen (we are still waiting and have learned that D’s artistic recommendations slowed things down).

@TwoBusyMom yes, I agree…unless it says to list all performances (as Syracuse did) my D would never list before the last few years. I couldn’t remember Michigan requirements offhand, but I remember that it was slightly different than what was asked on a regular resume. (If I remember correctly). Don’t want to give anybody the impression that I know what is required, as I only asked admissions at Syracuse and not Michigan.

In 2014 my D was accepted to Syracuse. She did a special resume just for them, and it went all the way back to Goldilocks in 2nd grade…

@toowonderful How cute! Thanks for the response. This is what we have heard that they want pretty far back.

D’s resume currently starts with HS. I guess for Syracuse I need to see what she submitted and ask if she went all the way back to Mushu in 4th grade. She may need to re-submit.

@artskids I have heard from others who passed prescreens who did exactly what your D did. I wouldn’t worry about it. The only reason why I questioned it was because it stood out to me as being labeled a theatrical resume. It doesn’t say anywhere that you need to go all the way back to elememtary school. My D included some Middle school shows for which she was a lead and all other shows for the last few years.

We received the first No today from Florida State but received a Yes from Ithaca moments later!! I think I took it harder than my D did. She said it wasn’t meant to be and that she is excited for the ones she passed. She has passed Carnegie, Penn State, Syracuse, Pace, Ithaca, Rider, Point Park and Elon. We will be auditioning for Elon on Friday. Hope everyone has great auditions!!

Congratulations @mandidnam!

This thread has slowed down! How have auditions been going for everyone?

@jenniferm1973 I agree! Can’t wait to hear how things go for everyone this weekend!!! My daughter has James Madison Saturday, Break legs everyone!

Thanks for the advice about Rider @SAS0792. My d prescreen result did show up on the portal long before she got an email. She got a yes. We will be at Rider on December 16th. Anyone else headed there in Dec.? Still waiting on Ithaca , Texas State and ACU.

@TwoBusyMom Did you ever find out about Michigan. I remember reading that they wanted “all” performances. My son didn’t include the performance from 2nd grade, but included work completed in middle and high school.

Hopefully we will have time this weekend to keep each other informed about our children’s respective auditions. What are all the family members planning to do while our kiddos audition? I for one will be on pins and needles while I wait for my S. Do we travel from area to area with our kids, or do we get separated at the beginning of the day?

@mommafaria It differs for each school but generally, you could be together at the opening session (info/q&a), then usually you follow either a different schedule or you are dismissed to a holding room. Sometimes with your student; sometimes not. I generally bring work with me (or a book if I am lucky enough to be caught up), find a café or the dining hall and set up shop until I get a text that kid is done or needs something.

@mommafaria you’re in Pittsburgh this weekend, right? If it’s nice out, you can walk around downtown. Point State Park isn’t far (like a five minute walk), and same goes for Market Square, which is super cute and has places to sit outside if it’s not too cold or inside in places like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. And often they have local craft vendors there with their wares. Some really cute stuff.
