Musicians who should be international superstars, but might not be

Just a new thread to make us all aware of musicians around the world who should be famous everywhere, but might not be. We all have such varied experiences that I would be very curious as to your candidate(s).

ONE of my candidates is Sharon Shannon from Ireland. She is amazing, and here are two of my favorites by her:

And please listen carefully to the words to this…something all of us, including our kids, should keep in mind.

Love to hear your suggestions!

Rick Beato covered this topic in a recent video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHlxTiR1zsk

The one song he chose to feature, Down by the Riverside by Muddy Magnolia, is blowing up six years later because he provided exposure. There are probably thousands like them.

That was the whole point of this thread!

I’m still stuck on “old music”, and it’s only because of our kids that I have any awareness of “new music” or even music from other countries.

Thanks for posting.

A local favorite is FACE vocal band. Acappella, but with voices as instruments. Their concerts are lots of fun. Here’s an example, with then home in Covid mode - Hooked on a Feeling (Face Vocal Band Cover) - YouTube

Omigosh, that makes me want to go back to Galway. Loved that city. The song played EVERYWHERE when we were there (about 13 years ago).

Yes!! Was that filmed on Shop Street? Looks like it.

On our escorted tour of Ireland 4 yrs ago, when the bus pulled onto the Salthill Prom the tour director started playing Galway Girl on the PA. Folks sung along to other songs so I thought it would be OK to do the same–when I got to the A - I - A -I -A, I guess I got a bit too boisterous, as dear wife gave me an elbow to the ribs I’m still recovering from!!!

I feel bad for those who think Galway Girl is whatever that abomination is that Ed Sheeren recorded a few years ago.

Not the best photo, but looks like the same scene.

I think it is. the Lazlo Jewellers is prominent in both your pic and Sharon’s video. We’ve only been once to Galway and really liked it.

But Sharon Shannon is just I am surprised didn’t make it big in other countries besides Ireland.

Partial to Steve Earle’s, myself.
