Must your minor compliment your major

I was wondering when I choose a minor does it have to compliment my major? I want to pursue a medical science and am leaning toward biochemistry so I was thinking that maybe I should minor in something similar such as public health. But I would love to pursue a minor in French because I really enjoy the language and would like to visit and study abroad. Would it look bad that my minor doesn't coincide with my major?

Your minor does not have to be related in any way to your major. In terms of finding the time to complete the coursework for a minor, it may be easier if the major and minor fields have some common courses.

But I can’t imagine why it would “look bad”, to anyone, if the minor is not complementary to your major field.

No, it doesn’t have to. Many do, but many others also just choose a random one that they’re interested in, such as you with the French minor.
