I'm like getting A- in Calc BC but like a C+ in physics and a B in chem. B in eng also. Will a C not make me be admitted to CMU?

C's are dangerous ground. If you were already on shaky ground to begin with, CMU does have the right to rescind your admission.

I would definitely not risk it and pull up that C as much as possible

Even if we sent in our deposit already? I am in the same boat... I jussst managed to pull 2 Cs into B-es (Calc AB and German IV), I most likely will be getting a C in English... and my other classes (wait, class I think) is A+... will the C hurt me?

Deposit is irrelevant. Even ED students are at risk of rescindation if the grades are low enough. I do not think a few C's will hurt you but I don't want you guys to come crying on the boards later when your decision is rescinded.

DO NOT TAKE THE RISK.

I have 3 A's a B and an F. Yes, a solid F in a core class. Hopefully they won't care as i'm doing well in my 4 non-(BRUTALLY EVIL)calculus classes.

Sending in your deposit does not guarantee you keep your offered place. Nothing is certain until classes start here in the fall.

Also, it depends slightly on what school you're in. If you're H&SS, the C in physics won't hurt as much as if you're in MCS or CIT (duh).

W T F? You can get your acceptance rescinded? Since when? How would they know how well you're doing anyways? They don't ask for your final transcript, do they? Seriously..what the crap. If that's true, that's such BS.

If they didn't have this possibility, people would just not do anything after getting accepted. They don't want you to get lazy. It's called senioritis. If you start slacking off during your last semester, CMU can find out through your school. Any school with competitive admissions will rescind their offer if you slack off; after all, there's probably some people who didn't get in who are more motivated than you, so why not give your spot to them?

so (on a 0-100 scale) how bad are like...straight high 80s... because i'm pretty sure that's what I'm getting, with a few low-mid 90s here and there?

well.... if cmu was like f you, at least i'd STOP HAVING TO THINK ABOUT THIS STUPID DECISION 24/7!! I've probably wrote like 5 threads on both here and UCB about how I am COMPLETELY stuck between the two...

"W T F? You can get your acceptance rescinded? Since when? How would they know how well you're doing anyways? They don't ask for your final transcript, do they? Seriously..what the crap. If that's true, that's such BS."

Um.. all colleges do this? Berkeley and other UC's have a rule where I think if you get a C overall, YOU'RE GONE.

Listen: High 80s are fine. I admit I got C's on my transcript during slacker season of senior year and nothing happened. I would still stand by my warning because I think you have all of summer to chill out and maintaining straight B's and maybe 1-2 C's is not that hard at all.

I'm guessing those are As and high Bs, in which case you're very likely safe.

Im not getting a C because Im lazy! Physics is hard for me and the teacher bases the MP on like 4 tests. I work very hard and the C+ in physics is just me not understanding the subject well.

I wasn't contending you are lazy; I'm saying if it looks to colleges like that's the cause of lowered grades in your final semester, then you're taking a risk.

Are you guys talking about your final grades as of right now or just the third quarter grades?

another intersting thing...how do they know what grades your getting?

do they ask for a final transcript?

Yes, your school usually sends it automatically.

My school just switched from a quarter to a semester system :-/ We therefore no longer have a third or fourth quarter, and only know our grades unofficially by the end of the year.

Does this pose a problem, especially if I may end up with a (single) C in AP Physics? CMU won't even know till i've graduated...

I'm kinda worried, because like others have said, it is literally the hardest course i've ever taken. I'm not lazy, but i'm also (at this point) an Arch major, so physics is not exactly a core class.

I believe either CMU requests a final transcript after you have graduated or high schools just automatically send one. But they can still recede your admissions as soon as the day before you take your first class. My English teacher tells us about this kid who was going to college and the day before he enrolled he got arrested for something and they receded his admission the day before he started there. Ok with that said I have a friend at Caltech and when he asked how low is grades could go they said nothing lower than a C in math and science and just not failing any English and history. If this is the trend in most colleges than all you guys are good.

I also was talked to by an admissions officer from a liberal arts college in my city. She was saying that they have the option to recede admissions and then followed that with and for the first time ever we had to do that last year. You know how many kids get senioritis and get a C and they have done that once. If this trend is followed at CMU then a C is ok just don't go with straight C's and lower and I am sure it will be ok. Also with the physics class if for some reason they recede your admission defiantly call and talk to an admissions councilor and just explain and I am sure they will work with you.

I do not think 1 C is that bad. More than 1 in a core class can be a bit dangerous.

getting a C wont be disastrous! stop worrying yourself! maybe getting all c's is bad, but 1 or 2 isnt going to do anything! Especially if this is an AP class, cmon now....

my guidence counselors have all said this, and that the only red flags would be getting a d or an f. But, even at that, they give u a chance to explain yourself! heres some proof:

i got accepted to northwestern. they sent me a sheet for me to give to my guidence counselor. on one portion, it asks, did i get an D's or F's. Are there any extenuating circumstances to the D's and F's.

STOP WORRYING. but plz, dont use this as an excuse to do bad.
