Most definitely some CC's offer more online courses than others.

for my school about 20 transfered to berkeley and about 50 to ucla and irvine. one each transferred to merced and santa cruz haha.

my schools in la county btw

100% of all TAP students from my CC have been admitted to UCLA/Berkeley. But there aren't many of them. D"

I went to SMC once and absolutely hated it even if I was there for like 10 min. But I took 2 online classes there which I actually enjoyed..so there are plus sides. I don't think any CC is better than the other, it really depends because some people at CC are there for like 10 years.. no joke.

I go to PCC and I am proud of it. We have a stellar math/science department. A winner of the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship (Most prestigious 2 year college scholarship) went to PCC.

That table is kinda misleading i guess because it does not really show how many people applied to each school. SMC may have 600 ppl transfer to UCLA but out of how many.....the percentage of who got admitted is more relevant in this case (which i think is hard to obtain)

Just out of curiosity, what's so bad about SMC? I'm moving back to cali so I'm not sure which CC to go to.

Cal State El Co (lol) is somewhat close; I haven't checked out this place too much since it gets trashed on a lot being known as another high school.

SMC has always been my first pick and the only problem so far I have with SMC is parking (which is something I'm used to living in LA) and the traffic.

Also, does anyone have any info on West LA College?

Adamantinex the UCLA tells you the percentage of students that applied to UCLA and got accepted. ELCO is actually a pretty sweet CC but really SMC and ELCO is almost two different worlds so you if you been to SMC it will be quite a bit different.

Guys, I am trying to decide between 2 cc which are about the same distance.

Either, Fullerton Coll 181 72 39.78%
or, Mt San Antonio Coll 299 139 46.49%

From that data, is it better to assume that Mt San Antonio Coll will benefit me more? or since there's obviously less students applying at fullerton coll and fewer numbers have a big impact on percentages, fullerton college is about the same?

Can't Decide! HELP!

oh. Parking. SMC. It's like a fight, everyday.

Really, the academic atmosphere is what you make of it. I look for good professors in my department and THEN i look at things like parking and course schedule.

SMC is still pretty darn impressive if you look at the percentages from the standpoint of UCLA. If you would go the thedude44's link UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Transfers from CA Cmty Colls - 07 Fall you would see that the transfer rate to UCLA (from SMC) is noticeably higher than that of Pasadena City college. (%42.29 as opposed to %48.75) One school in your area that has comparable rates for transfer with SMC is Glendale Community College, which has solved it's parking problem with a brand new structure.

Nothing's bad about SMC... except for the parking I hear.... It's a superb school accounting for over 18% of transfers to UCLA.

This is funny. I lived between Mount Sac and Chaffey college, so location wouldn't have had an impact on the number people transferring to UCLA.

109 to UCLA from Mt. Sac
13 to UCLA from Chaffey

Guess I made the right choice.

hmmm that's pretty interesting. well i guess i was wrong =)

(I ended up going to Berkeley, but UCLA is a better sample since it's fairly close)

I don't know anything about Fullerton, but I liked Mt. Sac because it was HUGE for a community college and therefore had a lot of variety in classes and times they were offered.

...it's just that my best friend goes there and always gives me grief, telling me that LAPC is for losers and SMC is for the "serious" student...

I'd have to agree with your friend. Your chem facilities are a joke, and your student body is far from diversified.

Also, most everyone who attends that school has the stench of failure all around them.

No, my CC is for smarter idiots!

So THAT's what that smell was..

If you have any questions about Mt. Sacs TAP/Honors program I'll be more than happy to answer them for you

Yes, Santa Monica Community College transfers more students to UCs, but that's because SMC has more students to transfer...if you look at the PERCENTAGE of students that they transfer, they are NOT number 1...in fact, LA Valley College (my CCC) transfers more people to UCLA if you look at how many people transfer in relation to how many students attend the CCC.

Even that isn't statistically relevant. Because some schools may have a higher percentage of students that are dedicated to transfer while some schools may have a higher percentage( that over takes the % of prospective transfers) that are interested in vocational training( e.g automotive tech etc). This says nothing about your chances once you apply, only that you statistically likely to transfer should you attend a school with higher rates( the one you proposed). What really matters is the percentage of successful applicants relative to a pool of applicants from a given school. See in this case, the schools overall student body isn't taken into account, just the applicant pool. Then you can successfully calculate whether going to school A over say school B would give you higher chances as an applicant.

Hey,
Two years ago I was in the exact same situation. I live in Diamond Bar and Mt. Sac and Fullerton College were both about the same distance from my house. Initially, I decided to go to Fullerton because Mt.Sac is such a HUGE campus that it's often a challenge to get into sought after courses. I have several friends who couldn't take any math/english classes their first semester because they were all full even though they attempted to petition. Not only that, the campus isn't as nice as Fullerton's. Fullerton just rebuilt a lot. It has an amazing library (better than Cal State Fullerton) as well as a brand new Student Common Building, finding parking isn't as ridiculous as mt.sac, classes are more available, and the atmostphere is pleasant. I did however attend Mt.Sac last summer and last Fall because they offered an articulated prereq for my major that only one other CC in the state offers. Mt.Sac has a relatively high transfer rate 1. because there 35,000 students 2. thriving Asian population resides in DB/Walnut area. The people I met at Fullerton College were way more social and outgoing. Both CCs have TAP. Research the classes you'll need to take for your major and check courses offered at both colleges.
I hope this helped.
