Hey..are you taking AP Art History ay Florida Virtual Schools with Mr. Reeves? I just saw that you are doing it online. Awesome class...got a 5 on the exam! ...Can't say I got as many 5s and you tho good job

Your list of APs is quite impressive, but I think it's a bit over the top for Harvard, that is, it makes you seem like you do nothing but study. You don't have that impressive ECs to match your impressive academics. You're lopsided, but not necessarily in a good way; it would be much more impressive if you did RSI or AMC or anything like that rather than so many AP tests. In fact, I think the adcoms will be a little suspicious as to why you're taking so many tests. Do you really have a passion for studying art history or psychology or computer science, or are you taking those tests simply to look good?

Hey pianoking7.You have no chance with those classes and grades.Try again later bub.

Oh, I misread that, I thought she had gone to RSI. I agree then, she has many APs and this might be impressive, but it does seem a little overboard, no one takes APs because they're passionate about them, they're blatantly for college.

streetrod1: My chances...for what? We're talking about maguo1.

Yes, many people think that I am crazy. However, I do sleep, and quite a bit. My schedule is three "fat" blocks each day, and one "skinny" block. The fat blocks alternate, while the skinny block goes full year. I have been granted an independent "fat" study block everyday due to scheduling conflicts. I know this is confusing. Therefore, the theoritical maximum number of classes is seven. Furthermore, our county teaches US Government the first half of the year and Microecon the second half-- which is kind of insane because we usually have seven weeks to learn economics.
Not only do I do all these APs, I work twenty hours a week. I work from 3 to 8 on M, T, Th and 12-5 on Sundays. I have decided to go to bed before 10 everyday. That usually leaves about 1 hour to do homework every night (except wednesday). I actually calculated my sleep time for stat class: mean: 8.3 hrs, sx: .3 hrs. Don't ask how I do it. The independent study first block is great and is also when I do my college apps.
I've found that self-study takes significantly less time than actual class. I don't have to listen to lectures. My self study art history class is actually online, and I generally spend 1-2 hours per week on it. My Physics C course is hard ( I can't due Electricity and Magnetism at all). I just do selected problems (10 per chapter) and turn them into my teacher (no tests, worksheets, notes, labs). However, my European teacher is a different story. He is such an ahole. He makes me do all these stupid worksheets and charts and outlines and makes me take quizzes. I hate it. I usually spend about 3-4 hours per week on it, although I copy most of it.
If your school board allows it, I would recommend that you do Human Geo as an independent study. It doesn't get much easier. I didn't even pick up the textbook until the week before the exam and I didn't read the book. I just went through the Barron's guide. If you know world history, Geo is a joke.
Oh, and by the way, I refuse to do homework on Saturdays--college football and parties. I'm a big Penn State fan. Don't ask how I do it; I somehow get everything done and sleep and stay sane.
Hey, don't feel retarded about Physics C. I am struggling through it. I did Gauss's law a few weeks ago and I almost dropped the class. The big problem is that my science teacher can do the physics, and my math teacher can do the math, but neither can do both. Lucky for me, my AP score won't affect my admissions.

Oops, I didn't realize that there was a second page of replies. Yes, I'm taking Art history with Reeves--I cant stand him. I'm on the greeks and I absolutely hate it. Oh, and those essays; I stink at them. Well, anyway, I just finished my essays for Harvard and I tried to show that I'm not a book worm. I wrote an essay about playing football, one about Joe Paterno (Penn State football coach) and his influence on my life and one about research. Furthermore, an admissions officer comes to my school this week and I think that this is my chance to have a "second interview"-- my first one stunk as I showed up twenty minutes late (I have no ability to find my way in a northern city where the roads go in funky directions). My hands are getting tired from typing, but keep replying.

i want to know your schedule! minute by minute so i can emulate it!

Ok, here's my schedule:
I wake up at 6:30, have breakfast, shower... and get to school at 7:30. My first block is independent study every day until 9:00, when I do art hist, physics C, and European. Then, from 9-10:30, I go to stat or government, depending on if its an even or odd day. from 10:45 to 12:20, I'm in either psychology or weight lifting. Then there's lunch until 1:00 (when most of the clubs go on), when I go to computer science every day until 1:50. After school, I usually either get a bite to eat, hang out with friends, or work out. On M, T, Th: at about 2:45, I leave for work and stay there till 8:00. I usually get home from work at 8:30, when I eat dinner and watch TV. At nine, I do my homework until 9:45, when I get ready for bed. On wednesdays, I have quiz bowl practice and then I usually do something afterwards. Oh, I also reserve Wednesdays to practice piano (I'm chinese). On Fridays, I hang out or sometimes do homework until the football game, and party afterwards. Saturdays are reserved for college football and partying and Sunday is my work day.

45 minutes of homework?

Dear lord I am transferring to your school.

Wow awesome, Next year I'm sticking to that schedule.

Where all do you go to school? How much homework do you all get? What are your schedules like?

jesus christ... at stuyvesant i only take 2 ap's and im up until 3 in the morning most days. and thats when i run home from school...

WOW and stuyvesant is a well know NYC school!

Mr. Reeves is cool! Memorzie what he says! I got a 5 on the exam without intensive study and the essays he has are hard because you gotta stick to the prompt!! Wow this is awesome..someone at FLVS! What is your email...you can send to me it you like through personal email here.

DUDE! Do you have AP Computer Science A at FLVS with Mr. Jordan? Are you charles?

What are the first two letters of your last name if you wish to say...I may know you! :)

No, I am not Charles. i'm actually taking Computer Science in class. Memorize everything for Art? That's not possible. My brain would explode. I would also love to get to know you all. Feel free to PM me.
Dude, you go to Stuyevesant? I want to go there. Do you have Frank McCourt as a teacher? I can't understand why you have so much homework though. Watch, some football and stop caring.

We have like essays + tests + physics problems + math hw + 3 books to read simultaneously + poetry analysis + biology labs + bio study packets (30 pages monsters :( :()

Yeah it takes me a while to finish that man. :(

Just to give you a little taste of my workload last night (Tuesday):
Read 25 pages of Government, and look over this week's module in Art History. That's it. It took me about 30 minutes.
What do you think you will get out of going to Stuy (I'm not criticizing it, just curious). We get comparable AP results (which are standardized). Do you think you will be better prepared for college.
Hey, move down to Naples; we could use a little competition here. In the history of our school, we have had two Ivies. One got into Cornell cuz her grandfather was president, her father dean and her mom a faculty member. Another got in on a sports scholarship to Yale.

Wow maguo1, you just seem to be extremely efficient with your time. I happen to read something once through, then take notes on it so I can just review my notes like an hour later, then 3 hours later, then 6 hours later, then a day later, etc. I heard that's what's best for memory.

Anyways, I don't go to Stuy....but I'd have to say now that I think about it, we have about the same workload. It just doesn't seem like it because my teachers assign everything at the beginning of the week and don't talk about it until the day it's due.

But I think you have an awesome chance at getting into Harvard. Being in the same grade, if you were from my school, I'd say you would have the best shot out of any of us. Good luck maguo1.

I am fairly efficient with my work, moreso than most of my class. I have an above average memory. I respect the amount of time that you spend studying, and I'm sure that it will pay off somewhere, but sometimes you just have to lay back. I've found that reading an AP review guide can be very helpful. I was kind of like you my freshman year, and I realized how inefficient and wasteful it was.
And good luck to you; I'm sure that you have just as good or better of a chance than I do.
