Please tell me my chances of getting into Phillips Andover.
Also, I’m applying for financial aid and boarding but, I’m not from across the country or anything (haha).
I’m asian in heritage but, am a U.S. citizen.
I’m also ahead a grade if that changes anything.
Thank you guys so much!
I am obviously not an AO and cannot accurately chance you, but I can say that you are at least in the running. Applying for 10th grade is more competitive, but it really depends on what Andover is looking for this year. Your SSAT scores are in their range I believe and your ECs are looking really good!
Thanks for letting me know 10th grade was more competitive. I thought it was less competitive!
Happypiano: what are your SSAT percentiles? The scores look very high!
Hello tramtpm,
My percentiles are as follows:
Verbal - 91%
Quantitative - 85%
Reading - 75%
I know that they are not in the Andover ballpark which is why I was wondering what my chances are (My math and reading percentiles aren’t that good.)
I got a 91% or a 90% on the SSAT (v scaled and t scales repectively)
Their average is 93rd percentile but that only means they accepted people below a 93 and over so don’t fret over your ssat score. You definitely have a lot of ECs which is great. Students who get accepted to andover get an average grade A, which you seem to be getting so that will help, too. Plus, you’re applying to the 10th grade and it’s much less competitive than to 11th . They accept around 20-25 children to 11th grade and 80-85 children to 10th (all info gotten from the andover website). You definitely have a great chance to get into Andover. Mind that your essays are also vital. Best of luck!
Update: I didn’t get in and was waitlisted. If my position from the waitlist does change, I will update for future applicants. To future applicants, I would recommend getting a 94 percentile or higher because a little birdy told me the actual SSAT cut off was that. Also, I would recommend spending a lot more time on your essay than I did.
While I don’t disagree with the goal of aiming for 94+, if there were a cut-off of 94 (and that’s a big if), I highly doubt Jim Ventre or any of his team would have shared that with a little birdy.
