you’ll get in everywhere but the ivies probably, unless you drastically improve your SAT scores. if i was you, (and this is probably b/c i plan to be an econ or business major) i’d go to USC b/c they have a spectacular business program, and hey, it’s in LA!!! maybe apply also to some high level state schools like michigan (visited campus and was so epic), and they have a 42% acceptance rate. just a thought. chance me back at University of Chicago Early Admission Chance

dang yale and brown! you’re a big dreamer… which is always a good thing! Keep at it! Your ecs are really good and your SAT’s are good as well! Your gpa is very similar to mine… which is not bad! write really good essays! best of luck! (:

Yeah, USC being in LA is a super plus.
I don’t wanna apply anywhere too far but thanks for the suggestion! USC, I just wanna go cause LA is amazing and its huge so it offers a lot of things to study. (150 majors I believe?)

after i have re-read your resume, i think that you actually might get into brown. sorry for the mistake!

Not a problem! It was good news after all.
I’m thinking Tae Kwon Do is gonna help me a lot? I’m guessing that’s what changed your mind?

Yale: High Reach
Brown: High Reach/Reach
Tufts: Low Reach/High Match
BU: Match
URochester: Match
University of Southern California: Low Reach
University of Connecticut: Match
George Washington University: Match
RPI: Match
WPI: Match

Your GPA and ranking is very strong. Do you have an UW GPA to give?

Honestly, I think the main thing hurting you right now is your SAT scores. Most colleges don’t bother looking at the writing too much so that will probably be a disadvantage for you. You have already mentioned that you are going to retake the Reading section, so if you do well, you’re good to go number wise.

The only other thing I can see as a problem is your ECs. Yes they are very diverse and strong, however colleges want to see some sort of interest or passion. If you are able to include that in your essay, you are definitely gonna be a great applicant for all the schools you listed.

Best of luck!

Chance me back? : ) Similar major!

If you can get your Reading up to a 700, I’d say you have a decent shot at the Ivies and are a shoe-in at the others.

Wait, you guys really think I have a shot at the Ivies with a better reading grade? Cause I knew it was gonna be higher (cause I’m retaking it) but still thought it wouldnt help that much. I’m expecting a 650ish in reading though…

Do you guys then think that I’m selling myself short and shouldnt even apply to my safety schools (RPI, WPI, GW) cause then I’ll try applying to better schools…

Apply to at least 3 safeties because if you dont get into your match and reach schools, you’ll be going to community college haha

SAT scores are the only standardized measure of potential in college admissions. GPA and ECs range heavily between different students and different schools. While you may argue that SATs are not the determining factor in admissions, they are still very very important and can amount to the difference between a reject/accept.

Oh god, community college. It would bring dishonor to my family.

Yeah, thanks so much for bringing light to that point about SATs. Cause sometimes I forget that it’s the only standardized measure.

If anyone else in this forum could give me feedback, that would be awesome!! Thanks in advance.

Not much to say, other than WAITLIST/OUT at the Ivies and IN everywhere else.

“Do you guys then think that I’m selling myself short and shouldnt even apply to my safety schools (RPI, WPI, GW) cause then I’ll try applying to better schools…”

TKD, RPI is a match school for you but definately not a safety. The academics there are first rate.

Whoever is telling you that GW is a safety is incorrect. GW is not a safety for you, esp. if you apply RD- check the thread for RD admissions 2010.

Yeah, I mean the Ivies I’m just applying just in case by some random miracle I get in. There have been kids at my school that have gotten into like Yale with a GPA like mine.

Thanks for those tips on RPI & GW!
