Hi. I'm just finished my junior year of high school and I will soon begin the application process. I think I'm applying to about 5 schools, and for 4 of them, I have a very strong chance of getting in, but U of I is kind of iffy.
People say that if you went to my high school (Naperville Central) you're a shoe in, but I don't think that's true.
My ACT score is a 29 and my GPA is a 3.84.
I've been dancing since I was four.
I'm a very involved member of my high school's theatre company. I've been the head of house management for 2 shows and the head of publicity for another, as well as various acting roles.
I am a member of the Nation Thesbian Society.
This past year, I was a mentor in my school's Freshman Mentoring Program.
I have a job as a waitress at a retirement home.
I'm not a complete straight A student, but I always take challenging courses. For example, Freshman year I took honors math and English. Soph year I took honors English and AP Gov. Junior year I took honors biology, AP English Language and AP psychology. Senior year I plan on taking honors anitomy, a few weighted social studies classes, AP stats and AP Literature. I have taken French for all 4 years by the time I graduate.
I haven't gotten my scores from this year for my AP tests, but I got a 4 on the gov one.
I plan on going into LAS. At this point most likely double majoring in Psychology and Social work.
Thanks for your help!!!

Shoe in; GPA and ACT above average for UIUC, great EC in theater, challenging HS courses at a top suburban school.

You’ll have no trouble. Message me if you have any questions. I’m going into my junior year there.

Thanks! That makes me feel much more confident! What is the average act and gpa out of curiosity?

Here is the link to the admissions requirements and if you scroll down it has the range of ACT/SAT scores and class rank. UIUC looks at class rank more than GPA I believe.

My school doesn’t do class ranks luckily. Too many kids with 4.8s

Chance Me Please

I think you would have a very good chance. My kids got in with about the same GPa, and lower ACT scores. One tip, tailor your essay to the major you are applying for and be sure to check the box that you would be willing to accept general studies as a back up. For example, if you are interested in psychology, mention specifically your AP psychology, your mentoring program and your interest in geriatrics from your experiences at the retirement home. Also, if you are a legacy, mention this in the section that lets you add any extra information. Good luck!

You deffinatley should be able to get in there. U of I is a great school for all majors but best known for business and engineering. So if your going into one of those you might need to improve your score a little bit, but since you aren’t you’ll be fine. Good luck!
