Hey, everyone. I just wanted to gauge my chances of getting into the UC Davis. My Un weighted GPA is 3.69.
My ACT Composite is 30.
My ACT English is 34.
My ACT Math is 32.
My ACT Reading is 26.
My ACT Science is 29.
AP SCORES:
AP Computer Science Principles- 3
AP Government - 4
AP Calculus AB subscore - 5
AP Calculus BC - 3.
I have taken lots of AP and Honors Classes. I am in PSEO. I volunteer a lot, and I am very politically active. I am a member of my Speech team, and many other activities. I plan to be an Economics Major. I am OOS in MN.
UC GPA capped weighted?

Can you afford OOS fees of $65K/year?
Your chances at UCD are a lot better than at UCLA. 50-50 I would say.
Why Davis? UM-Twin Cities is a good school and if not UM then Wisconsin-Madison is another viable choice.
And also only AP/IB/DE classes get the extra GPA weighting for OOS students.
Im guessing he’d rather deal with all the 100 degree days in the late spring and summer rather than 10 degrees below zero every day in the winter lol.
@Gumbymom Thank you for the link, it is very helpful. After entering my stats I received the following results:
Unweighted GPA: 3.70
Weighted GPA: 4.35
Weighted and Capped GPA: 4.04
I understand the difference between weighted and unweighted gpa, but I am not familiar with weighted and capped gpa.
All UC’s will look at the UW UC GPA, Capped weighted UC GPA and Fully weighted UC GPA. The majority of UC statistics is based on the capped weighted UC GPA so that is the GPA I use when chancing any applicant for comparison.
The capped weighted UC GPA gives up to 8 semesters of extra honors points for AP/IB classes taken 10-11th grades for OOS applicants. The fully weighted UC GPA has no cap so you can get more than 8 extra honors points in the calculation. Only UCB and UCLA list their fully weighted GPA on their websites for Freshman.
Below is statistical info for the UC’s based on capped weighted GPA and not major specific:
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 12.6%
UCLA: 11.7%
UCSD: 38.7%
UCSB: 53.6%
UCD: 56.5%
UCI: 52.1%
2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.23
UCSD: 4.16
UCSB: 4.13
UCI: 4.13
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:
UCB: 30-35
UCLA: 31-35
UCSD: 28-34
UCSB: 28-34
UCD: 26-33
UCI: 26-33
UC’s tend to be GPA focused but being OOS and full pay, I would put your chances higher than 57%. Not sure why you are spending money to apply if you are already accepted into your top school? Best of luck and the California schools always like full pay OOS students.
@Gumbymom Thank you so much for your help!! I really appreciate it!
@Youngstudent18 Even if your stats are 50/50 or 56% as others have said it is definitely a good school to have on the list provided you can afford the OSS tuition. We have visited UC Davis and it is a beautiful campus that boasts plenty of things to do for students, great weather most of the year, a highly bikeable campus, a fun college town and superior academics. The campus community seems tight knit and convivial. Good luck
@readthetealeaves Thank you for you help and advice!!
Your chances look fair, your unweighted GPA is most likely okay, but what’s the weighted GPA? If it’s anywhere above 3.9, then I’d say you have a good shot at Davis, otherwise I’d look into other UCs like UCSC and UCR
