My chances for Hamilton, St. Lawrence, etc.

I applied to St. Lawrence University, Hamilton College, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges last night (meaning I finally paid for the Common Apps, lol).

Why I'm applying: They're liberal arts colleges, small classes, and probably close knit communities. I've been in this type of school setting since elementary school. I kid you not my 8th grade class was literally 17 people, and my senior class is of about 100-120 students, which is the largest class my parochial school has had.

Stats:
Race: Black
Ethnicity: American born, Haitian background.
Hopefully majoring in: Biology

SATs (highest scores): 630 CR, 470 M (I know, I know), 500 W. ACT: Scores not available yet, as well as SAT IIs in Math Level I and Biology

Class Rank: 12/120 (from 06/2010, after the marking period ended in Nov., I think it's higher... it better be... hopefully)

GPA: 91 unweighted. On a 4.0 scale: 3.6. *I would've had a 4.0 if it wasn't for an incompetent AP Lit. teacher.

ECs: Chapter VP for Junior Statesmen of America (nationally student-run political organization), Homeroom Rep. for Student Gov't., Student at SUNY Downstate Medical Center taking college-level anatomy and physiology classes. Internship with the Geriatrics Psychology center at Downstate socializing with an Alzheimer's patient, National Honor Society.

APs: U.S. History, Literature (junior year), Language (senior year). APs have recently been offered in my school about 5-8 years ago, from my knowledge.
Other college-level classes: Pre-Calc (with credits received from school partnership with St. John's University, along with AP Language).

Other information: I've already confirmed an interview for St. Lawrence for January 16th. I'm going to call and confirm an interview with Hobart and WS after I discuss it with my parents. Hamilton, however, the deadline has passed for off-campus interviews, but I was told to try and ask a student or alumni to do one with me.

Please be honest (shouldn't have to worry about that), but provide constructive criticism.

I was encouraged by a student whom graduated from my school last year (he attends Williams, free ride), to apply to LACs, especially Hamilton, because he wants to see the best for his underclassmen. I'm glad he's giving me that good kick to step out of my comfort zone.

Thank you!

I also want to add that these schools are my super reach schools, as far as I’m concerned. And if all else fails for the other colleges I’ve been accepted to (St. Bonaventure, etc.) in terms of tuition or acceptance from these LACs, I will be attending a CUNY school (City University of New York, which is said to be one of the best in the country).

i’ve never heard about hobart or st. lawrence, but you SAT scores are wayyyy too low for hamilton, smith, and williams’ standards. i got rejected from hamilton with a 1980 SAT. there’s no way you’re getting into some of the top liberal arts schools in the country with a 1600/2400. your class rigor is also lacking. i’m in the same boat as you in that case, though; i’ve only taken two AP’s. i’m sorry if this all sounds harsh, but you should definitely consider applying to some less competitive schools. your class rank and GPA are pretty solid, though, and hopefully you’ll have good scores on your subject tests. i wish you the best of luck! hamilton’s an amazing school, and anyone would be more than lucky to be able to go there.

I’ve applied to a lot of less competitive schools, and a few safeties.

Hamilton, St. Lawrence, and Hobart and WS, were just my “Lord, do I have a shot of going to these schools?” Lol.

But it doesn’t hurt to at least try, right? Thank you for your honesty. =)

And then we did the BUMP!

BUMP! I have already applied to these schools, but would like to receive specifics in case I get a rejection letter before I possibly get one.
