My chances for Tech and JMU?

I was wondering if I even have a shot of getting into either Virginia Tech(corps of cadets) or JMU with:

IN STATE
GPA(weighted): 3.156 :/
SATs:
verbal: 800
math: 720
sat 2 math 2c: 700
extracurriculars:
3 years of JV football
2 years of jv/varsity track and field (winter and spring)
spent 4 weeks in South africa for community service
tae kwon do black belt with various tournament wins
other crap

Do I have a serious chance at either Tech(ROTC) or JMU?

I think you have VERY good chances, especially w/ those SAT scores. I'm a little curious about the GPA, though. How does your school weight, and what courses did you take?

thank you for replying!

I have taken 7 AP courses
grading scale:
94-100 A
90-94 B+
84-90 B
etc

APs: .5 weight
Honors: no weight

Then I think you don't have all that much to worry about.

But what is a B+ on a 4.0 scale for you? That seems like a HUGE drop off from an A.

SAT Median scores from College Board:

Middle 50% for JMU:

SAT Critical Reading:520 - 620 97%
SAT Math: 540 - 630 97%
SAT Writing: 520 - 620 97%
ACT Composite: 22 - 26 31%

for Va Tech:

SAT Critical Reading: 530 - 630 97%
SAT Math: 570 - 670 97%
SAT Writing: 530 - 630 97%
ACT Composite: - -

a b+ is a 3.5 on the 4.0 scale

I think my GPA is a little low for either school, but i heard that if your parents have not attended college it is beneficial

ur in at both

Yea I think you're basically a shoe in at JMU, and applying for the corps of cadets at VT gives you special consideration for admission. Your outstanding SAT score and applying for the corps of cadets will get you into VT. Good luck!
