My chances for various UC campuses

Based on my stats:

-overall A-G gpa: 3.1
-SAT: havent gotten score from Oct SAT yet, but 1800 on PSAT.
-havent taken the SAT subject tests yet, but planning to take math level 2 and US history)
-16 hours of community service.
-2 months work experience.

Which UC's would be my safe schools, and which would be long shots?

Big Reach schools: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD

Not sure about the rest

your GPA is low. None would be really considered "safe" in your case. The minimum for eligibilty is 3.0. You have a 3.1. You're looking at UCR and UCM

well it depends on her weighted. if she has a good weighted like 4.1 or maybe 4.0. she would have a good chance at ucsd.

Actually, my counsellor told me that UCR and UCSC would be safe bets. And my real gpa (from all of my classes in all grade levels) is about 3.2

P.S., I'm a guy.

I was also considering UC davis.

The only schools you really have a chance at are UCSC, UCR, and UCM. The UC GPA (meaning the weighted GPA) is 3.89 or above at all of the other schools (even at UCSC the average UC GPA is 3.59). The only exception to this would be if you have taken a significant number of college courses through the local community college already. Then you would have a chance at UCI, UCSB, and UCD, but not at UCSD, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. Note: UCSF only accepts graduate students or students with at least two years of college already.

Normally UCR and UCM would be your only choices, but fortunately for you, the UCSC program has had open spots for in-state students each of the last three years, you have a decent SAT total, and therefore you have a shot there as well. UCSC is a good school, especially for computer engineering or biology majors. And I wouldn't knock UC Riverside, especially if you are considering either a business, theatre, or dance major.

Good luck.

Well, I know that both UCSC, UCR and UCM accept around 75% of applicants whose gpa is between 3.0 and 3.25. My counsellor did say that those schools would be almost a sure thing for me, since I came from a distinguished high school and all that. As for UCI and UCD, UCD accepts around 30% of applicants whose gpa is between 3.0 and 3.25; for UCI, its 12%. I already know that I dont really have a shot at the top-tier UC schools such as berkeley and UCLA. I'm not really considering URC and UCM, cuz there at the bottom of the UC food chain; plus, I'm planning to major in computer science.

chances are UCSD and up are out of the question unless you make a real effort to show you improved and that you will continue the same excellence.

Knew that. I'm aming for UCSC.

hye345:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB/UCLA: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Slight Reach
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Match

Thats a HIGHLY optimistic viewpoint; I had previously assumed that UCI/UCD/UCSB would be a BIG reach for me.

"chances are UCSD and up are out of the question unless you make a real effort to show you improved and that you will continue the same excellence."

I never thought about this but...

I really started to get serious about my grades around the middle of my junior year. In fact, if you only take my GPA for junior year and senior year so far, then my overall GPA would be around 3.6 (so far, my GPA in senior year is 3.85). :)
