my chances in nyu law

Hi i am a freshmen in high school. I have a 3.75 unweighted only counting core classes math science english soc spanish. My aunt taught a buiessness seminar at nyu. Whats my chances with having my aunt previosly working there

Freshman with a 3.75 UW and a legacy? You’re in. Actually, you’re in twice. No brainer.

Actually, Op is not a legacy at NYU so her aunt having worked there in the past will have no bearing on her application. Op should actually enjoy high school. She can come back to assess her chances in about 6 years.

Even if we had your GPA all the way through the end of your junior year in college, we still couldn’t chance you very well because of the simple fact that you haven’t taken the LSAT. However, over the next seven years you can do quite a lot to get ready for law school.

While you’re in high school, take difficulty and challenging courses. Starting with a 3.75 GPA is fantastic - now try to pull that up. Next year, shoot for a 3.9, then the following year try for a 4.0. Take honors and AP courses if you can. Starting this year, it might be advisable to begin studying for the SAT in a relaxed matter. As your junior year starts, pick up the intensity and then take it at the end of that year. Hopefully you’ll score well and that, combined with your good GPA and the great recommendations that you’ll have because of the relationships you’ve developed with your teachers in high school will get you into a great college.

Once you get into college, again take challenging courses, but be sure to do well in them. The grades you get are more important than the courses you take. Read lots of complicated materials. Around January of your junior year you’re going to want to start studying for the LSAT. Having taken challenging courses and having read much complicated and dense materials, this shouldn’t be too hard, but it still needs to be taken seriously. And then, after taking the LSAT that June and getting your score, go ahead and come back here and let us know what you got. Then we can chance you :)
