i applied to hamilton EDII and am completely in love with the school--

my gpa is a 3.5 from a hs that is known to be tough. not sure what the weighted grade is.

took AP US history and maintained a 3.5 average, but somehow got a 3 on the AP. i'm currently in AP Psych with a 3.5 and AP Spanish with a 3.5. I've been on the honors Spanish track since 9th grade.

my sat I was a 2010 (like a 1340 or so)- 600M, 700CR and 710W.
sat IIs were 640 literature and 640 US history.
i checked the box that told admissions to chose my best scores for me.

i've been taking fairly advanced art classes all through hs and show my work on occassion. i submitted a portfolio with my app. i'm also involved with an environmental group at my school and have done a bit of community service and activism-type stuff.

i worked for the summer after my sophmore year and then through the summer after my junior year until present.

i interviewed with a student on campus and also met with a trustee/alum who lives near me.

any thoughts/comments would be appriciated :)

not that im an expert, but I'd say you have a good chance! It's so impossible to tell w/ colleges these days--I heard our year is the worst for applying to college because there are so many doing it! and the admissions process is so arbitrary, it's really scary if you think about it to much. I'm trying not to, at least till february.

oh yeah, i know, it's rediculously competitive. all you can do is hope that your app won't get rejected just because there were too many applicants. small schools especially... hah yeah trying to stop thinking about it. not working to well, but at least i'm attempting.

I think you are certainly in the running....but who knows? It all comes down to the roll of the dice sometimes...the thought of which is driving me crazy! Good luck! :-) :-D

i know it probably looks like it is a bit low, but like i said, i'm coming from an extremely well-regarded hs. the average gpa of students accepted to Hamilton from my school is a 3.4. Most colleges take into consideration that it's a really tough hs and would consider a gpa of a 3.7 to be like a 4.0 from most other high schools. our averages like that are a little funky, hehe.

nah! I was just kidding, ur gpa's fine and I feel u have a fair chance of getting in. Just pray a lot, if ur religious. I'm also applying and I'm not sure I'll get in. We all had an interview virtually on the same day in my hs and I dont think I made enuff impact on the interviewer.
Good luck though.

..hah, ok. the sarcastic tone doesn't quite shine through in the post, but i'm glad you were kidding. in terms of your interview, i'm sure a small school like Hamilton pulls out all the stops in order to make sure they have their applicants straight-- i doubt they will let you fall through the cracks. best of luck to you, too :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the interview. My daughter interviewed off-campus with an alum on Jan 2nd, who has apparently never bothered to submit a report since it is not showing as received on MyHamilton.

You might want to check up on that interview. I've heard of interview reports just getting lost along the way... and interviews can be a really good way to strengthen an app, especially at a small school. I met with an alum for an informal interview and he really encouraged me to go for another, more formal interview up at Hamilton. Hamilton likes interviews. Good luck to your daughter :)
