I'm going to have a 3.47 as my calculated GPA when I apply this fall. My major is business... for now financing.

My freshman year I had a 2.7, but my sophomore year I recieved a 4.0. During the summer I took one class ( microeconomics) and received a B. What are my chances getting into UCI - Business Econ., UCLA - Business Econ., UCSD - Econ. Management Sciences, Tufts and Boston College.
I will have my IGETC completed and will be in the Honors Program by the time I transfer.

Also, can anyone recommend good schools with business as an undergrad major. Somewhere I have a chance getting in with my GPA. THANKS! If you have questions on which classes I took or anything that I can provide you guys let me know.

UCI - safety
UCSD - slightly a reach
UCLA - definitely a reach
Tufts - reach
Boston College - VERY reach

Good luck

Tell us which courses you took, and explain to us why your GPA sucked so bad in your first year.

If your courses are EXTREMELY rigorous, and you have a VERY GOOD reason for not being able to achieve a high grade as a freshman (such as special family circumstances, financial difficulty, etc), then you could even have a VERY good chance with UCLA. GPA and honor prog alone isn't enough to tell about the chances. :)

for ucla...it depends if you did tap or not cause business/econ for ucla is really impacted and the average admitted gpa for that major is 3.8 and a 19.2% acceptance rate

my friend got in ucla with a 3.4 but with tap

ALWAYS GO ONE STEP FURTHER THAN WHAT THEY REQUIRE YOU.

If the school requires you to take two semesters of calculus, take three semesters (Calc I, Calc II, Calc III). If the school requires Macro-, and Micro-econ, take one additional economics/business course such as Economics History of U.S. or Business Calculus/Statistics.

And Although this may not be a requirement for some school: TAKE ACCOUNTING I and ACCOUNTING II

For example, UCLA's biz/econ don't require them, but they will start requireing them starting next year (2008), and you will be taking them anyway when you get admitted to major, so taking Accounting courses early will make good impression on Adcom. They'll think you are actually preparing for your major.

really? UCLA is going to require Accounting next year for business econ? Where did you hear that. And If I'm applying this november (2006) i don't need it correct?

I heard it both from my cc transfer counselor AND the UCLA economics department counselor.

If you are applying this november (same as me), no you don't actually need it (they won't require it for you), but it'll be a great boost to your admission if you do take them ;)

I honestly don't find it reasonable to take 2 semesters of accounting at a CC for business at USC. I know they say they recommend it, however you are actually wasting a semester.

Taking 2 semesters of accounting at CC = Only waive one semester of accounting at USC, still need to take another semester once you get there (basically 2 semesters of accounting at CC = 1 semester of accounting at USC)

Or you could just not take any accounting at CC and just take the 2 semesters of accounting at USC which makes more sense.

But the thing is, my cc has this special program called PACE where you can take two semester worth of courses in one semester.
So basically, I getting both Accounting I/II done in one semester :)

Ehh that seems out of place. Are you sure USC values that? I would think other CC's would have that program because it seems very logical to do.

trust me, its worth it to take two semesters of accounting. Not only is accounting hard at usc (because its a marshall class graded on the marshall curve) you got levanthal kids taking it as well. I'd rather take one semester than two, plus classes are much cheaper at a CC. i'm going to review accounting indepently cuz i took the two quarters worth and i don't remember a thing. Supposedly the combined class buad 300something is really hard so i'm scared.

I only took 3 classes my freshman year. English 100, Intro. to Psychology and Precalculus. I really don't have a specific reason as to why I did so horrible other than that I was working 22 hour weeks and I really didn't have a study habit established. During the spring semester I took Calculus 1, Honors Geography, Business, Computer Science, and Music 105. If you guys have any advice, I'll gladly take it!

English 100 (Not a Hard course)
Intro to Psychology (Not a Hard course)
Pre-Calc (Not considered hard *must be at least Calc I to be considered hard enough)

And you got a 2.7 with no specific reason other than working 22 hours a week.

During Spring Break (still in freshman year?):

Calc I (There we go. Courses starting to toughen up)
Honors Geography (Yup, honors is good)
Business (Course related to your major, so good)
Computer Science (somewhat related to your major)
Music 105 (bleh.)

and was was your GPA for this?
If this is where you got a 4.0, then you got some chance, since it shows progression of your GPA.

Can you tell me which courses you took during your Fall and Spring semester of both your Freshman and Sophomore year? And possibly for the Summer courses too.

And tell me some of your ECs and Awards you got.

You basically got everything. I took those 3 courses during fall semester and I received a 4.0 during my spring semester with those 5 classes you mentioned.
I received the Presidents Honor List for my spring semester.

Could you guys also tell me which schools (not necessarily those in California) I have a chance getting into which Business Admin. or Finance as a major ( can also be Bus. Econ)
