My friend had very similar stats to yours (including TAP) and was still rejected by UCLA for biz econ. If you're aiming for Haas at Berkeley, it's going to be an extremely high reach without at least a 3.8+. I'm not too sure about NYU.

Well the question is if you fulfilled all, if not most, of your pre-reqs with A's. Cause you'll stick out like sore thumb during the admission process. Also try doing a business club or econ club at your school
Well if you fulfilled them, I pretty sure you have a chance at UCLA since in you're in the Honor's program and all.
You're GPA is a tad bit low though. Average applicant was a 3.8.
Hopefully if you get 4.0 GPA during the fall semester grades, it will boost it up.

Thanks for your help! Ya, I'm thinking about starting a business club, but I just went to a counselor yesterday and I realized my weighted GPA is actually a 3.76, so hopefully that will help too. I finished all my pre-reqs. I got an A in all except the two econ classes which is probably really going to hurt my chances...let's see what happens!

What do you mean your 'weighted' GPA? There's no such as thing as an unweighted or weighted GPA in college. Do you mean your GPA with your nontransferable work?

Better shot at applying for economics major, then changing to bizecon once accepted. fyi, you can switch around the economics department after being accepted.

TAP & 3.5gpa+ almost guarantees acceptance provided you have decent ecs/grades in premajor courses(mostly As)

what if you took accounting courses but your GPA is kinda low for bizecon?
Should you still apply to bizecon since you took/will finish the prereqs?

If you're in TAP, then yes you should apply because you have the choice of designating an alternate major when applying. If you are not in TAP, then it's not worth it because you will likely get rejected.

do you have an alternate major that ur interested in? just wondering because u are in TAP and ur gpa for bizecon is a little under the competitive average...

I guess some people don't listen. Let me break it down.

When accepted to the school of economics; regardless of major, you will be "pre" econ/bizecon/mathecon until completing the requirements. Before you declare a major at --UCLA--; econ/bizecon/mathecon you are free to choose whatever major within the economics department that you like.

Your goal should be to get accepted to UCLA for the economics department. Then determine if you can make the cut for the bizecon major. 3.5+gpa in econ11/101

so OK let me get this straight. If I were to get accepted for Math/Econ and took all of the required courses...I can just switch into Business Econ since they are both in the Economics department?

Yes you most certainly can. The problem with that is the two required accounting courses. After arriving at UCLA, you must declare a major before completing 134 or 137 units. Typically, people transfer in with 100 quarter units.

So you'll have 2 quarters to complete the requirements.

That's highly unlikely though that you'll get mgmt1a, ec41, and ec11 on your fall quarter with tons of transfers coming in.

It is recommended to take only 1-2 economics/accounting courses per quarter due to the competitive student body. 300 students of similar caliber, the courses aren't gonna be easy.

My rec is to complete the accounting sequence before arriving to UCLA and signing up for summer courses at UCLA prior to transferring to give you a headstart on meeting the reqs. You can finish ec11/41 before fall and just focus on 101 to ensure you get into the bizecon major.

Remeber you need a 3.5+gpa in ec11/101 and a 3.3 cum ucla gpa to get into bizecon.

Score two As in ec11/41 in summer, and AorB in 101 in fall while taking 8units of random lower divs in film, and you'll be in.

Getting accepted to the UCLA economics department is one thing(which is what you're applying for as a transfer), getting into bizecon is another(can only be done after being accepted to the economics school)

my friend shaan got in! hes really cool. hes in my dorm right now... his cc handle is rshaan. his email is shaan r at gmail dot com. email him for advice!
