Okay, I'll see what I can contribute. Brief background -- my son was recently accepted ED.

First, do you know what your "Elon GPA" is? This is pretty straightforward. Take you academic courses, on a 4.0 scale, and add 2 points for AP courses and 1 point for Honors courses. Elon's reported GPA for their accepted students is based on this Elon GPA, so you really need to do that calculation.

I'm just going to assume that your Elon GPA is 3.7 (for no particular reason -- just hypothetically). That's a little below Elon's average, which is 3.9. Not a big difference, but it is below.

SAT Math is right at the 50% level. SAT CR is only slightly below the 75%. So of the 3 objective criteria, your stats are below average/average/above average.

Meaning wha? Probably that IMHO (and it really is ONLY my opinion) for RD you're probably on the low match side. Good luck!

Ur stats are slightly better than my D's. She is a frosh now, but had an extensive performing/dance resume. What's your class rank? She was top 10% (skin of her teeth AKA very close!) I know they are getting more and more selective so I don't know if this knowledge means anything to you this year. Good luck!

Blue - I'd hope and think you'd be a solid match. Maybe you've gotten someone to put in a good word from your architecture intern program to help you out?

I went to UGA as a grad student and loved it. Totally different big school concept but, just in case, I'd suspect you've considered that as an alternative too. Elon is sweet, and my D's apparent choice instead of UNC or NCSU, but Athens, Georgia is awesome. My two bits. Best of luck.

Ditto what NCPOP said. That's a somewhat unusual internship, so a good word form someone would be helpful. Yeah, I know that Elon doesn't require letters of recommendation, but I'm sure they'll read them if you send them. Also, Elon really does like demonstrated interest, so it would be helpful to do whatever you can to impress on the Admissions Office that Elon is your first choice (if it is). Again, best of luck -- I didn't want to sound terribly negative, it's just that Elon's selectivity is going up so quickly that I'm nervous about nervous for most anybody except for the people who are clearly above their 75% levels on stats. My son was accepted ED, but I'm sure that he would have been deferred EA and it would probably have ended up being a crapshoot in the RD pool

NCPOP (and others), you all set for Fellows weekend? I'll be interested to hear how it goes, maybe get your impression on dorms, etc. As it turns out, my son will not be able to go to the Spring Orientation that is set up for the ED acceptees in March -- he has a conflict with his final practical exam for his EMT which absolutely cannot be re-scheduled. So looks like we won't get down until the April orientation.

Thanks for the sincere answers! I do realize that Elon is becoming more competitive each year, as it's being "discovered". I did go on a schedule tour back in the fall, and luckily I was the only one that day, so I got individual attention.
NCPOP: I have in fact applied to UGA and am waiting for a decision.

I'm in your boat and can relate to your wondering! I also was deferred ea with 3.7 uw gpa, 1330 old sats and between last year and this year 5 APs. Only 2 more weeks to find out! I'm so nervous! Hopefully we both get in. Good luck to you!

i just stumbled upon these posts and ironically i'm at elon right now for fellows weekend. it's a great school and i hope you have the opportunity to matriculate here. that being said, here's some of my advice for dealing with elon:

find an advocate in the admissions office. if you have someone "go to bat" for you during that crucial time when they decide whether or not your defer is changed to an acceptance, you'll have that much better of a chance. i don't know who your particular adcom representatives are, but by luck of the draw mine happens to be the dean of admissions (a great guy, by the way). you should probably find that out; i'm sure it's on some form of letter they've sent to you. if you would like their dean's contact info, i'd be happy to give it to you...private message me.

go ahead and send in your rec letters. like someone above said, elon claims to love involved and dedicated students, and that is exactly right. if you show elon that you seriously want to go there and will matriculate if accepted, your chances are going to increase significantly.

relax and enjoy your senior year. if you have some recent accomplishments (for example, i received a leadership award in january) let them know. you could write a letter or an email and it will be added to your file.

i know kids that have been accepted with your stats. i know kids that have been accepted with lower than your stats. it really is important to elon, a somewhat progressive liberal arts college/university, to attract a well rounded mix for their freshman class. if you can show elon what makes you tick and what makes you special, you'll have a great chance at gaining admission.

let me know if there's anything i can do to help you out!
