What do you think my chances are of getting into Pomona College? It is my top school and I reallly want to go, but I'm not sure my test scores are good enough. I don't take tests well.

I’m afraid your test scores are under the average for an accepted student. I guess I would either retake, but if you don’t think you can score higher I would just write phenomenal essays and hope for the best.

Good Luck

Sorry, I have to agree with Anonymous91 on this one as your test scores fall below the mean.

What’s your school like? Is being top 10% very hard? Is that GPA weighted (and if so, how)?

I agree with the low ACT score, and would also add that it seems like your courses aren’t as rigorous as they could be (how many APs does your school offer?).

The fact that you got a 5 on you AP World History test shows that there are certain kinds of tests on which you do well. Just because your test scores fall below the mean doesn’t necessarily translate to an automatic rejection. I’ll say it again - the mean represents the average, i.e., other acceptees had test scores below that number as well.

Good luck! And if you have an interview, definitely let the interviewer know that Pomona is your #1 choice.

aah thanks for the brutal honesty! ill just cross my fingers and see how it goes! i requested an interview, but they were all full for my area so i wasnt able to get one. is it really important to have one?

I definitely wouldn’t lose hope! I applied with a GPA below the mean and I was accepted, I think mostly due to my essays, recommendations and extracurriculars. Pomona is definitely a school that doesn’t base acceptance/rejection solely on stats, but looks at who you are and how you will fit in there. If Pomona is your dream school, make sure they know it :)
