My Chances

I live in New Jersey
SAT: 1760
Major: Undecided, Deciding between Computer Science and Sports Management
Volunteer at a local nursing home for 10 years
captain hockey team
other clubs

Sports Management major is very competitive.

CS is a tough major. What was your math SAT score? What is your GPA?

OOS gives you a boost, but your SATS are pretty average. Are you being recruited for hockey? That would give you a big boost.

My GPA is 3.5, I go to a Private School so like we are one of the best academic high schools in the tri state. I wish I were being recruited for hockey, I could pursue my hockey career by taking time off from college to play juniors but it is to expensive and just want to go to school. I plan on playing club and just worrying about academics.

Edit math SAT score: 600

taking it again in october that was the first time I took it.

In that case I think your chances are decent. If you can up your SATs, probably pretty good.

Thanks! I visited the campus and loved it. I was wondering if it is easier to apply as an undeclared major or specify a major on your application?

You will have better chance if your are undeclared, but if you want Sports Management I think you have to apply for admission to that major.

I would apply for the major you want, if you don’t get it can still be admitted as undeclared.

Well I went to the admissions session before the tour, and they have four competitive majors. Business Management, Computer Science, Nursing, and I forgot the other. But you can transfer into any major they said except for Nursing. I’m guessing their nursing program is very prestige. But I do not think you need to apply for Sports Management in order to transfer into it.

Yeah! your in good standing, Your SAT is high and you have a good GPA with ec’s.

The Sports Management program is within the business school.

From [Isenberg School of Management: Sport Management Department Admissions](http://www.isenberg.umass.edu/sportmgt/Undergraduate/Admissions/)

So, yes, it is possible to transfer in of you are not accepted as a freshman, but it will be very competitive.

Good luck! I hope you get in.

Sport Management is a very competitive major at UMass. Their program is among the best in the US. They take around 80 students annually. It is a business school based program that is very highly regarded. Good luck!
