Out of 6,800 applications, my daughter was the 602 who were admitted to Denison University! That is a 9% acceptance rate for the Class 2020!
Congratulations!!! :-bd
As exciting as it is, and my own kid is thrilled to be admitted, Denison (and other schools) admit many more students that the number they expect to show up in the fall. Other than the ED1 and ED2 students who are bound to attend (apart from the financial aid wiggle room), some percentage of admitted students will choose to go elsewhere.
Congrats @Stella65. My D has a friend who is very, very happy there. It’s a great school, and a beautiful campus.
Sorry, to burst your bubble but that is probably their expected yield for the acceptances that go out. In other words, they accept a lot more and yield 602 for the freshman class.
It’s somewhat confusing but if those numbers come off of the acceptance letter then that’s what is going on. WUSTL also did in their letter making it appear like a much lower acceptance rate.
The only single digits are the heavy weight schools right now.
Doesn’t diminish the accomplishment though as its a great school!
Stella65. Denison’s acceptance rate is closer to 50%. I think you are referring (602 students) to the actual yield. Congratulations to you and your daughter. Denison is a fine school.
Denison’s acceptance rate is usually listed around 45% though the number of applications have surged – the school reports there were over 6600 apps this year, a big increase from when National Clearinghouse says it was 4500 2 years ago. So, acceptance rate is likely to drop for the high school class of '16.
Denison can get overlooked with both Kenyon and Oberlin in Ohio, but the Denison faculty is terrific, the administration engaged, and the student body is quite diverse. There are some great programs, such as the Sen Lugar program in Poli Sci, and an intriguing new major in Data Analytics. Drop dead gorgeous arts building and athletics facilities, charming town, and only 30 minutes from the arts (and internships) in Columbus – a great balance!
Congrats to your daughter!
I’m a recent grad and can say Denison is a great school! But the acceptance rate is usually around 45% percent haha. They have to accept more than 600 students because not everyone accepted will enroll. But from what I’ve been seeing from the DU facebook page, applications have increased by around 55% in just the past two years alone, so I would assume that this year’s acceptance rate is lower than the typical 45%. Either way, it is a wonderful place and your daughter should be very happy she got in
I friend of mine’s daughter recently graduated from Denison. She LOVED the school and it has landed her an amazing job in NYC. I’m not sure what more one could ask from a school (aside from a full ride, I suppose).
Has anyone even been denied or waitlisted from Denison this year? (Honestky havent heard of a single person being waitlisted)
Well if the acceptance rate is below 50%, then there are certainly are rejections and waitlisted students.
I’ve been admitted to Denison too. I received $30,400 in aid with 100% need covered. I’m international btw(U.K Wales) and dual U.S. citizen. Going to visit in April seems to be a great school and very generous too :-bd
@Ali1302 Campus should be lovely in April! Enjoy your visit.
We chose Denison out of the 10 schools she was accepted to because of the arts program and the wonderful faculty she spoke to while visiting in April.
I know this post was made a while ago, but I wanted to clear this up for any future readers. I am a current freshman at Denison and got the same letter as the posters daughter. The 9% acceptance rate is accurate for the RD applicants for the class of 2020. Denison accepts 70-80 percent of the class from ED applicants, so their acceptance rate is obviously a lot higher than the RD’s. There were over 6,000 RD applicants and only 600 spots. That’s why the number was so low. From my understanding, the 30-40 percent acceptance rate is the average of the ED and RD acceptance rates. Hope this helps
They have to accept a lot more than 600 students to fill 600 spots… Do you get that @violet14194? Not all acceptances actually attend.
