My family earns more than what I put on my app. What now?

On my UCs and Stanford apps I said that my family earns <$30k (my mom told me so), but I just saw their 07 tax returns and we earn slightly above $30k. Should I contact admissions and tell them about it?

We'll be earning less than what we did this year compared to last year, but I don't think it'll go under $30k.

in my opinion, honesty works best. i would contact them. tell them you just got your tax returns.

even so, at the end of the day its your choice. consult with your parents too.

Yeah, it shouldn't make much time, and I'm sure they'd appreciate the honesty (and understand the situation).

What's the best way to contact them? Email? Phone? If I email, what should I put in the title and in the letter itself? It's my first time contacting admissions telling something about myself.

i would call.
this is a sentive issue and i feel that human contact (even if its over the phone) makes a difference.

call and ask for an admission officer. simply explain the situation and then ask to correct what it says on ur application.
i always call my schools for questions (response is immediate, i hate to wait for email responses) and the admission officers are usually incredibly helpful.
