When I went to Davis, I hated my first 1-3 months, and gradually started likeing it after that. Its hard to be away from home for the first time, and at first, it seemed to me that I would never make friends. I felt SO lonely and scared. My second year was really hard because I didnt like my living situation, and I didn't have a car.

My third and fourth + years were great though! Davis grows on you, big time. Its something you just have to experience. Once you are a 3rd or 4th year you will look at freshman as if they are babies. You will question how you made it through freshman year. You change so much in that time frame and become independent and knowledgable of the city and campus. As a senior or "super senior" you get to know so many people that it feels like high school sometimes. You see familiar faces left and right on campus and at the bars especially. Then, when you leave Davis and go back home or to any other city you will probably be saddenned to find that when you go to the store you see a bunch of old people you don't know instead of familiar faces, or that there arent a bunch of drunk people walking down the street...you will appreciate Davis a lot by the 3rd or 4th year. You just have to understand what a college town is all about, and then you will probably never want to leave....

Like with anything, going to Davis is going to be as much fun as you want it to be. Those that don't enjoy it here, you're probably quite anti-social, because first week is when everyone is super open, and making friends is the easiest. It was almost impossible not to make some friends.

Yeah I bet the first week at Davis is tough...

You have to realize that for the next 4 years you will be located in a small town surrounded by cows.

You realize that the about 50% of the student population is asian.

You realize that some of the schools you passed up are actually more favorable than UC Davis

You realize you made a mistake lolz

From this point on, I am going to ignore Oop-- I think he's liking all this attention. It makes him feel better about all his failures (I mean c'mon, who doesn't know what Early Decision is? Did you see this guy's reaction when he found out what it meant?! What an idiot-- too bad they deleted that thread... =/).

It's pretty much as fun as you are willing to make it. If you really are staying in your dorm or apartment all day doing nothing, you have no business commenting on Davis; you are just experiencing your room. Join some clubs, go talk to your neighbors, go to a couple parties, and there's no reason you should be bored in Davis, or feel awkward, after the first few weeks.
