I’d just like to say that as a freshman, I’ve been here for a week, and I LOVE IT! :)

go ags!

it's alright. :X

It's awesome!!

Ehh, it's OK so far.

event expectations were too high ;p

its alright i guess... nothing special.

that's cos u guys havn't been out past 11pm ;)

What is there to do past 11? I've been just going to bed and watching tv...

midnight cow tipping is pretty big around here.

go get **** drunk! (i am not encouraging underage drinking)

wait... yes i am

it's alright so far...

Davis is a great university.

But i've noticed that some people here are smiling and laughing without any reason, it gets weird after a while...
lots of two-faced people here by the way

I hated my first week here. Now it's all good.

Most people hate their first couple of weeks, because let's face it-- it's awkward. Nobody knows each other, your on a new campus, and you're forced into weird social situations until you find a close group of friends.

deepster: Ummm... lots of two-faced people? UCD students are some of the nicest students I know-- maybe you just need new friends? Clearly you're hanging out with the wrong people.

deepster how do you know they are laughing/smiling without a reason??

That post reveals maybe more about your attitude than it does about the students at UCD. I know you were having a hard time meeting people and I do hope that you are having more luck. How much of the advice on your "how to meet people" thread did you follow? I am sorry this has been tough on you but yeah UCD is well known as a friendly, laid-back campus. If you are having trouble finding friends that aren't two-faced it is time to start attending club meetings, sitting with people eating alone and forming study groups. Be proactive and try to not be negative about other people's happiness.

The beginning can be really tough. It was for me, anyway, last year.

But, honestly, I feel like Davis grows on you like a fungus. It might take a little time, but once the spores of this place sort of wedge their way in to you, they take off. These days, I wouldn't rather be anywhere else.

If anyone out there is still feeling unhappy or discontent, just give it time. Satisfaction can not always be produced at microwave speed.

I didn't mean it in that way...but okay...
i meant people that can be very annoying. I've talked to them too, the whole time it seemed like they were talking way to loud...or laughing in a strange way.
I'm from the bay area...and some of the stuff is really weird to me.

I hangout with people who I already knew from high school. I've made a lot of friends here though. But i really don't even wanna talk to people who aren't even paying attention to me and just trying to get attention....
oh well

Well you should've said "annoying" then. Annoying does not mean two-faced. BTW, most people who go to Davis are from the Bay Area, so just look for more people from around.

My initial reaction was you were mad at people for laughing and smiling. There's nothing wrong with laughing, and if you think they laugh/smile weird, then you're just getting a bit too judgmental.

(: My sister goes to Davis and loves it.

Buttttt I'm leaning more towards SoCal.

Off topic, yes, but let's not criticize deepster.

tHE FIRST FEW WEEKS HERE, i REALLY DIDN'T LIKE. i TRANSFERED HERE AND DID NOTHING BUT SLEEP AND EAT THE FIRST THREE WEEKS HERE BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED. The welcome week was fun, but I wasn't really at home yet. I have enjoyed the last month though, lots of new and friendly people. I went home 3 weekends ago, and was amazed at how fast paced the Bay was. I'm from Oakland and my friends live between Richmond and Fremont in urban areas...I don't understand all the hustle and bustle anymore. Davis is very calming.
