that Uconn only looks at people in the top 20% of their school. Is this true?

Say I'm in the 4th decile at my school which is instate, will they reject me solely on that? thanks.

depends on where you go to. ivies may accept ppl in the top 5 percentitle... so can uconn.

Definitely not true. In fact, according to these numbers (http://uconn.edu/about/enrollment.php) 19% are not even in the top 25%.

Still, the fourth decile may be pushing it. Not sure exactly what your chances will be with that.

I know that is not true because I was in the top 30%... When did you apply? They should get back at you after a month.

I will be applying next year, I have some time to bring down my rank due to a crappy freshman year, but I do not think I can get it down 20 %.

Hopefully I can nail the SATs to get a better chance.

Bump. Any more advice/thoughts/witty comments?

It depends, gold shadow's stats should tell give you somewhat of a picture. If you can make up your rank, and have good reasons as to your low rank standing, then it eases your low percentile. I believe they look for minorities for the 19% differential, since uconn has a prob. with diversity in terms of economic status, race, e.t.c..... They do this, since it has a low yield perc., since they are in the middle of a cow town:(. Good luck, and if you write an emphatic essay with good recs. you may be able to pull out an admittance into if not storrs, a regional campus.:)
