My Idea for my Essay. Tell me what you think

I have been working at Ritas now for 3 years. Over these past years I have noticed many psychological habits. Whether it be habits of toddlers to even older people.
Thing I have observed:
1. Children below the ago of 20 almost ALWAYS get the same thing as their peer of whom they came with. Not always the exact same thing but there are almost always similarities in what they order, whether it be the side, ice or ice cream flavor, topping, ect.
2. Poorer people pay with 100 dollar bills because they like the feeling of getting money handed back to them .People who pay like this think they are better than other but really aren't. They have superiority issues because when their total is under 7 dollars or maybe even less they pay with 50's or 100's when they really arent wealthy based on what they're wearing and the cars they drive.
3. People only tip when there is money in the tip cup. When I put a dollar of my own in my little cup (not allowed to have tips at Ritas) I make more money than when a customer starts the tip cut. When people see a dollar in my tip cup they will tip me becuase they feel as though they must conform or society (the scooper or the customers behind in line) will think illy of them

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!

I don’t know about number 2. It’s a good observation, but seems rather…

The idea is cute, but how to elaborate it into a good essay?

I see what you mean. I would have to do more research and conduct my experiment further. And come up with more theories. I am excited. I am only a Soph :]

This isn’t for a college app essay, is it?
This topic would be more appropriate for an academic research paper. You can do it like an independent-study kind of thing. But it would not be a college app essay.

just because they’re in rags and drive an old car doesn’t mean they’re poor. they could very well have that money simply because they haven’t spent it on material things. although you could be right in just as many cases as i am.

wait…what are you even talking about??

???

I agree with MonochromeAddict about #2…it could come across as almost snobbish, even if you’re really not. Some people who are really wealthy dress poorly in order to avoid attracting attention. There are even people who are quite poor who dress like they’re wealthy.
Just be sure to make this essay about YOU- otherwise, this could be more of a social commentary than something about yourself.
Sounds like an interesting idea.

I definitely would NOT focus on point number 2 - at all. Regardless of your intentions, I can see adcoms using the fact that you noticed this as a point against your character. I’m sure it you didn’t mean it like that - but that is what I think they would see.

I think 1 and 3 are cute ideas, and you cuold make them into a good essay, but you’d have to be very creative and tactful. And reveal information about yourself while doing so.

take number 2 out. ***

I feel like you would come off as a bit pretentious. The observations are interesting, but I don’t know about writing an essay with them…

its kind of interesting, but you say ALWAYS the same thing and then end up saying that they don’t actually order the same thing but there are similarities most of the time…it just seems like a shaky topic

This makes you look like a total snob. How do you automatically know what others are thinking? How do you know their reasons for paying in large bills?

…i wouldn’t know because i never put money in tip jar…sorry :)

the essay needs to show off who you are, not other random customers

maybe you could write about how you came to observe these habits and how they made you realize something about yourself? It might help to show that you like to observe your surroundings.
