My primary language is not English... TOEFL requirements?

<p>Like many immigrants from Asia, my first language/mother tongue isn’t English. However, I am now a Canadian citizen and go to an English-speaking school in Ontario (just your regular high school). I was wondering if I need to take the TOEFL for U.S. school admissions? What’s the rule for whether or not one needs to take TOEFL?</p>

If your native language is not English, the Board of Admission requires that you submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) as evidence that your English proficiency is satisfactory for study at Brown. A TOEFL score of 600 or above on the written exam, or 250 or above on the computer-based exam, is required in most cases. The TOEFL requirement is waived for candidates who have scored a 600 or above on the SAT I verbal examination.
