My prof never wrote my rec and completely forgot LOL

So I asked a little over 2 weeks ago for a rec for an internship through email (since I didn't have class). She accepted. I followed up about 4 days later in person after class. She said she will get it back to me in about a week.

A week and a half later she emails me but in a response that seems like I was just asking for her permission. So I guess she completely forgot... Which is awkward because my email is straightforwardly asking for a rec.

Anyway I need 2 lor total and have 1... I was depending on this professor but it's due in 2 days and yeah. LOL. I don't think ill get it now since my app would only have one lor unless she comes through with one in a day.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience? I understand professors are very busy but I've never had one completely forgot about something like this.

Yes I have, I needed a recommendation to get into an honors college and didn’t get in because a professor never turned in the letter of rec. The admissions office literally told me that they would have accepted me had they just gotten that letter. Sucks. I learned the hard way with things like this you have to try and get letters ASAP so in case a professor decides just not to do it you can get another professor. Thats why I blame myself, I waited till there was only 3 weeks until the application was due to ask for a letter of rec when I had months.

^^ AHHH so it does happen. I wanted to follow up yet again but felt like I would’ve been too pushy with finals and end of the semester jazz. Unfortunately even though I asked ASAP and put all my trust in the two profs I chose :(

Mine have been very good about it, but I don’t know why. Could’ve just been coincidental.

I do know that I try and always give myself at least a month to get recommendations from professors. As soon as I decide to apply to something, I contact professors asking if they would be interested, and then I email them again about a month and a half before I need it. That way they’ve heard twice from me and have more time.

Are you on break yet? If not, maybe see if they’re in their office. Or if you really want, write a draft yourself and email it to them. They can either base theirs off of it or just go ahead and send it if they’re lazy. That’s what people have been told to do on here from a post in the Parents Forum back in May, so I guess it might be common practice.

It would suck not to get accepted just because a prof procrastinated, though! I hope it works out for you!

Haha, I do this as well but the time frame only gave us a little over 2 weeks. Not sure why, I think they’re doing some last-minute spot-filling hiring?

And just an update, but my teacher sent in the letter of rec today… WITH THE WRONG JOB TITLE. I’m embarrassed but will send it in and cross my fingers anyhow. Shame.

Oh geez! Well, at least it got in. Hopefully they’ll recognize the error in job title as your PROFESSOR’s inadequacy and won’t hold it against you.

Good luck!!
