My Progress Thread - We Will Triumph

Why? What happened?

You worked so hard and you’re so close. Was it CollegeBoard’s fault?

Screwed

Medical Boy
My test center got messed up and I couldn’t go to the one cb assigned me… So I have no choice but to withdraw the Oct registration.
It may not be a bad thing though, I’ll have more time to perfect my writing score and read more novels (:
BTW, have you taken any subject tests? Which one did you take?

i took the math 2 and chem and both were an 800 math will probably not be that had for you to prepare for you can get like 6 wrong and still get a perfect score

I took math 2 and bio.

Trust me with your skills, preparing for those tests will be a piece of cake.

@ benjamin

Sorry that you can’t take the test in Oct. That’s crazy. But at least you get more time to practice writing. Hopefully, the way your scores are going, you’ll get a 2400
Anyway, good luck!

I took a CR practice test yesterday and got (-7) which is 690 or 720 with the curve for the test( Oct. 2011 has the most generous curve in all of college board history). Took a math test today and got -1 which is 760 or 780 with the curve. The mistake was a logic question that I did too quickly to reason through properly.

I still want to get that 800 math but its all based on luck now. I’m getting 800’s only sometimes and it’s not consistent so anything can happen on test day. :/

I have a great idea for the last week of studying. Everyone that’s taking the October test should go through their past tests and post the questions they got wrong or found challenging. It could be anything, sentence completions, math problems, or writing questions. This would help us look out for those tricky problems and maybe even help us find new methods.

Let me know if anyone is interested an we will plan out how to do it efficiently.

Good idea medicalboy
I’ll post one question trapped me twice.
This is from May 2013 Asia test ( disclaimer, if you haven’t taken it, please stop reading )

The renewed interest in Elizabethan times is evident in the _____ of new Hollywood films set during that period.

A. spate B. hypocrisy C. demise D. transience E.revival

MedicalBoy
A sidenote though, you need to stop telling yourself 800 on math hinges on luck.
Carefully review the process of every logic or calculation error you have committed. Get a notebook and jot it down. Review it once in a while.

Trust yourself, you can eliminate the stupid error and 800 is all yours!!!

Forgive me if I’m wrong…I haven’t taken the May 2013 Asia test, but I will attempt to analyze this problem as practice for sentence completion, if you are okay with that, benjamin?

Isn’t the answer A? Well, just by telling, A and E are the two choices to decide on…hypocrisy, demise, and transience don’t make sense in meaning and logic.
Here’s the problem with E: a revival of Hollywood films means that the films have been created some time ago. To me, that logic doesn’t make sense because the sentence never says anything about reproducing Hollywood films. “A renewed interest in Elizabethan times” suggests that the “new Hollywood films” were influencing and educational enough. The only logical answer is A, spate. A sudden rush of new Hollywood films would spark renewed interest.

For E to work, the second part might have to pertain to entertainment and literature in the Elizabethan period…there were no Hollywood films back in the Elizabethan times.

Sorry if I answered this question…I haven’t taken any real SAT tests yet…gonna take the October one.

@eagle
I’ll respond with your answer later when more people see the question.

I think it’s A too. I have the same reasoning as eagle. If it’s not A, this is one tricky problem.

The only clue for revival is “renewed” but you never know how the college board thinks…

Yea thanks benjamin. I was planning to do that in the last week with the help from members from this thread and my own pasts tests. I want to be aware of everything and anything that college board might throw at us.

I’m trying to concentrate on CR to get it really high so if any of you guys have any CR questions, feel free to message me the question and relevant portion of the passage and I’ll try to explain it! : )

Took a CR test.

Got -7 with -4 sentence completions and -2 on short passages which is surprising. I’m going to review in a bit and work on my essay. I’ll post my mistakes.

Took a test this morning and decided to do the essay. I lost all ability to write an essay it’s all gone. My math section went well with 1 skip zero wrong though I didn’t know how to do two problems and one of which I only got out of technicalities. Writing section only four wrong which is pretty good but won’t matter cause my essay was horrendous. The Critical reading section I got 2 wrong and 1 skip the skip was a level one problem I forgot about. -_-. Overall very good test I just need to pratice writting my essay anyone have any tips or links to good posts on cc

Using the online subscription that my friend purchased, I received a 720 on the math section for test #1 w/ 2 wrong (each in the fill-in portion) and 2 omit… does a 52/54 (since fill-ins don’t count as being wrong) really come out to a 720??

Your raw score is not a 52. It’s 50. You might not get points taken off for fill in the blank, but you don’t get the point either. For a 50 raw score, 720 would be average/generous.

Yeah, I just realized that before reading your post, haha. Long day! Thanks :)

Anyone mind giving me an idea of what this would score/ how to improve it I feel like my essays are just so ****ty.

The prompt was: Is it possible for a society to be fair to everyone?

While Many cherish the notation of equailty they tend to ignore the praticalty while doing so. It is not possible for a society to be fair to everyone since praticallty thier isn’t enough resources availble in a society for everyone.

Karl Marx was the most influential propent of communism or the idea that the worlds wealth should be poled together and then fairly distrubted amongst everyone. He expressed these influenical ideas in his book the Communist Manifesto/ He however mentioned that it’s not possible for society to be fair to everyone and it would take the world for the abilty for everyone to have a fair share. He insited the reason it wouldn’t work is thier isn’t sufficent resources in just one society to ensure society treats everyone fairly.

Abrham Lincoln also worte about his notations of a society in which everyone had a fair share. Abrham Lincoln unlike Karl Marx actually was in poltics. During his period of poltics he learned just how few resources society has avaible. Becuase thier are such finite resources, Abhram Lincoln felt that instead of spreading the avaible resources evenly to everyone, which would be fair but also led to everyone not getting alot, it would be better to give resources based off an individuals needs. It is not possible for society to treat everyone equally due to the large differences in the needs of individuals. Abhram Lincoln pushed that it's not possible for socirty to buy everyone a wheelchair and be fair so it should only give to those who actually need one.

While both Karl Marx and Abharm Lincoln disagree with why it's not possible for everyone in a society to be treated equally, they both agree that due to a limaton on the avaible resources for a community it simply isn't possible for society to be equal or fair to everyone.

Any input on how i can improve would be great just typing this up a realize how many spelling errors there are.
