Hello, I was reviewing my acceptance letter anf noticed it did not mention m residency status. On my preliminary awards notice, I'm charged in state tuition and am. CA resident (as submitted in the FAFSA). Is this a sure way of knowing whether I'm a resident? Or is it subject to change, and when would I find out?

I've been in Cali for two plus years going to a CC, have been working for a year, did my state taxes, etc. In CC I was charged as an in state and the State unis considered me a resident as well. Any input would help, thank-you!

How the UCs determine Residency Status is convoluted. One of my friend’s daughters who studied abroad her senior year of high school, but was born and raised in CA her entire life, was declared non-resident by the UCs and it took an act of God to unravel that mess. I suggest you contact the university immediately to get confirmation on your situation. Here’s the general policy and its details: http://www.ucop.edu/ogc/documents/uc-residence-policy.pdf

Oh man…so I contacted the FinAid Office about it and they’re forwarding it to their Residence Deputy. I feel like I’m in some deep ***** now, lol. But thank you for the reply. c’:

You’re not necessarily in trouble. It is the Residence Deputy (scary name) at each campus who evaluates residency since it’s so bloody complicated. Good luck!
