I ordered score verification for the October SAT, and I just found out that my CR score rose 40 points. Does this mean that the hand-scoring was a success?

Yes, it worked (what else could it mean?). That must have been a nice surprise, huh? Email the CollegeBoard if you want to verify the process’ success.

Congratulations! In all my years of tutoring, I had never heard of even one case where rescoring actually led to more points. Nice to know that it is possible…

This is fascinating stuff.

I think I should do the same thing for Writing, but I’m not sure. I’m kind of scared. I generally score in 760 range, but I messed up my essay and made a 7 in essay. I’m fairly confident that I only missed 2-3 MC, but it shows that I made a 55/80.

Haphazard: I think you should go for it. I had 3 omits I did not remember making, and I decided to take the chance.

Do you guys think it is possible that my score be lowered again? I’m kind of paranoid because I did make rather weak marks on the answer sheet, and that may have contributed to the machine picking up my answers as omits. I just don’t want to get my hopes up =/.

I once left a sentence completion blank and yet the score report stated that I had answered all 19. I vividly remember leaving one blank. So there is always error when grading so many answer sheets.

Well wow, that’s really great for you. Still, I can’t believe they let things like this happen. But of course, if you didn’t completely fill it or didn’t make it dark enough, I guess that would be your fault.

Although, for a situation like the above poster’s, that’s just ridiculous…

HelloNelly: How long was it between your request for result verification and when you actually saw the score adjustment?
