A question for current and recent boarding school students and their parents:

In your opinion, does your school have a petty theft problem?

Interested in both affirmative and negative responses.

Bump.
It would be really nice to have this information.

Mine (Andover) - no. That said, people here are also generally wise and careful with their belongings. But not once this year has there been a single item that’s gone missing from my 40-guy dorm, nor have any of my friends complained of stolen items, from their dorms, the locker rooms, or otherwise.

Well, it’s not anything major but my d’s laundry basket went missing. She left it with her laundry, came back and it was gone. This happened at P.A.

it happens sooner or later everywhere

Mine----->Not that I ever have noticed (Public MS)

My public MS- Watch your stuff carefully. Don’t leave expensive jerseys or calculators on your desk when you go to the bathroom if you want to see it again but I guess thats pretty much everywhere.

That is the same in my private school…someome went and took a person’s iPod touch and and put them in the bathroom sink.

my school actually does have a petty theft problem… some girl got a lot of money (travel money) stolen from her unlocked room. Just remember to lock your door/locker and don’t leave money/expensive things unattended!

at my school alot of people don’t leave their stuff in the locker room anymore. this 6th grader went in and took like…5 ipods, 3 phones and someones jewelry. thats how she got caught- she walked right by the girl with the jewelry on, while there was a teacher/coach there.

Hi Izzy, it’s nice to have insight from an actual Middlesex student. Would you say it was an isolated incident or part of an ongoing problem? Interested in any additional context you care to provide.

Hello Rad, are you referring to your current public school or what?

my current charter/public school, yes.

Have people heard of any Boarding schools that have theft problems? Are there any major incidents?

exeter had a minor series of thefts earlier this year. i think they caught the person though.

It can happen because of increased academic/social stress.

I go to boarding school, and we have people taking stuff out of the fridge. We keep our doors locked to prevent theft, but about once a year there’s a major theft. The culprit is always caught and expelled, though.

darkblade, which school?

@Tristan2: i think it was more of an isolated incident.

obviously some food will get stolen out of the community fridge and if you leave money out don’t expect it to still be there, but there have only been 1 or 2 major thefts that i know of.

My son had his bike taken (lock may have been cut off?) and the last time found it on campus somewhere with a broken gear.

He just recently had his expensive calculator stolen right in class and when he asked his classmates if someone had mistakenly picked it up noone would admit to it. His cell phone was stolen while he was sick in the infirmary, someone made calls on it and downloaded software to it!

As a parent I am quite disappointed this is happening at his school!

which school, PA-C?
