On an earlier thread, I believe I remember confused mentioning that she was deaf, which would of course affect her verbal score. Although at the time, I had originally given her a quite negative answer, after learning about her disability I reevaluated. So, I still don't think your chances are great, but your dream is definately one worth holding on to. Good luck!

If she was deaf, why didn't she mention it? The only way being deaf could help her is if she wrote a compelling essay about how her disability has affected her or if she became involved with community service realting to deafness. If she explained to them how being deaf can affect SAT scores but not AP scores (I still find the discrepency puzzling) then she could still have a chance

All right. I admit it. I am deaf. I wrote an essay about how it affected me and how it made me a better person. In my most meaningful activity short essay, I explained that I tutored a student with a hearing loss, that we understood each other and therefore had a powerful connection, and that we became better people. As you know, I didn't do well on verbal SAT. APs were very straightforward, and there weren't a lot of unfamiliar vocabulary words. However, on SAT math, I stuggled to understand the language of math; sometimes I misinterpreted the questions.

dont lose hope - you still have a chance!!

Just wondering ... (no one take offense to this) ... do you think being deaf is a hook?

IMO, i think it is ..I would imagine not that many applicants to Princeton will be deaf - making your chance of admission higher..

deaf isn't so much of a hook, as an explanation, or a hardship that had to be overcome.

just because you're the "only one of something" doesn't make it a hook; let's say I'm a convicted felon, it's not going to be a hook because im the only rapist applying to princeton ;)

....i know a little extreme, but you get the point

wat? i thought rapists were guaranteed admission to princeton
