I just received my SSAT scores and my super scored scores are 90 in math, 80 in verbal, but 67 in reading. I’m only applying to top tier schools; Exeter, Andover, Choate, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and Loomis. Do I have any chance at any of these schools? I do have an unusual hook, although I have a feeling the reading might bring me down. Also, does it matter if I did poorly on verbal once and brought it back up to a higher grade while doing worse on math the other time? I guess I am trying to ask if the schools really super score, or will the lower percentiles on individual sections on different tests bring me down as well. Any help appreciated.
It depends on your hook. Not all hooks overcome lower scores. Yes the schools superscore but they will look at your scores in context of your grades and coursework… Also, the schools treat scores differently. Math matters more at some. Reading matters at all schools. Your total % is low for Exeter and Andover but right in range for the other schools. As I recall.
I definitely agree with @Center it depends on how special your hook is. Although you scores aren’t that bad, they are probably out of range for PEA or PA. Honestly I might even consider applying to some less selective schools, as safeties.
What is your overall percentage? My DD was admitted to PEA with an overall below the school’s average. It does happen…
MAandMEmom, No idea since it is superscored, but my guess is that it’s probably low 80’s based on how each individual test was scored.
@skyper123456 I would say that. The math section is weighted much more than the other sections I believe. Exeter certainly values higher math scores so you are good there. If you log on to the PSAT site you should be able to get a score report for each of the times you took the test.
