My Summer Progress Thread

It only looks that way :stuck_out_tongue: The horses are just pure amazing . Hopefully this year I’ll finally be able to lease one and then 4-H (daydreams shamelessly)
Yeah. It’s a bit of a problem really cos I Uhmm dunno anything about it. But I used to play Trombone and my section was full of perverts and kids I’m pretty sure I could get expelled for harassment. So I switched to tuba cos we’re all nerds there <3 You play an instrument?

Not currently, but I’ve played piano for a considerable amount of time (5 years) and tuba + sousaphone for some time too (3 years). But yeah. Some people in band are just weird :p. Been there, done that, had fun, ready to move on with my life, thankyouverymuch band …

Hello your schedules booked much more then mine (by the by!) and with actually useful things!
Ahh piano. The vain of my existence. Lucky duck, my parents would probably die if I quit that.

I think my parents did die when I quit that; they just didn’t unleash their anger on me. I really want to play the piano again and every day I listen to these beautiful works for piano … and I just want to play them!!! I’ve been trying a little bit - I practiced a little bit the other week - but it was SO hard coming back from 6 years of inactivity and trying to play the first movement of Beethoven’s Op. 69 mvt I. What do you primarily play on the piano? Any specific pieces? Right now I’m listening to Beethoven’s Op. 69 Mvt. IV and I <3 it.

I’m not really sure what I play. A mix of things, I’m relatively horrible at it for have been playing it 9 years. I’m pretty sure I’m /not/ musically talented at all. So I can’t be sure what I’m doing. Probably appeasing my parents they have to win at something right?
Ahh those classic composers… I play a lot of George Frederick Handle and Martha Mierz . /cough/ But I think if you have any interest in it you ought to try and fit it into your schedule it’s supposed to be the best instrument to learn. (maybe?)
As far as hand goes. Let’s just say I like the flute and clarinet players. The brass section? They all hate me. And I’m pretty sure all I did was threaten to have a kid arrested for saying something completely inappropriate (he couldn’t have even arrested for it but nevertheless)
Have any ideas on what you want to major in at college?

Who’s Martha? I’m undecided about college.

Hah I’m not sure. She appears quite often in my piano books though. She composed a lot of stuff I end up playing. >.<

That will be great c: thank you

ACADEMIC

 1. Finish tedious AP projects. (I have 5.)
 2. Study hardcore for the SAT
 3. Look at SAT 2 material, and try to prepare for that as well. (Math 2, Bio M.)
 4. Prepare for next year’s course load by self-studying material ahead of time.
 5. Become more mathematically-minded.
 6. Start working on personal statement.

Latter part of break/secondary

 1. Get driver’s license.
 2. Research for science fair project.
 3. Continue working at clinic with doctor.
 4. Build levee system in parts of third world countries to stop overflow of water.
 5. Find, battle, and capture Pokemon in my backyard.
 6. Workout/get lean. I benched 155 as a sophomore(first time ever lifting weights, and that’s weak, but I’m a skinny kid haha.), squatted 245(not that good.) sitting around doing homework all day has caused me to lose my abs. Tisk, Tisk.
 7. Drive around random parts of the city with my friend, meet new people, build connections, and become politically powerful. (last year we randomly walked into a Goldman Sachs building, and held a conversation with this dude for 2.5+ hours.) swag.

I’ve read through people’s lists of things to do, and I seriously think most people with these long lists are setting themselves up for failure by piling so many things into that list.

I am not staying up for SAT II scores any longer … g’night yall :).

Brush up on calc and learn a bit more abstract algebra in addition to reading some literary fiction and getting ripped with P90X2. I also want to go on another solo backpacking trip.

Abstract algebra and solo backpacking! You are the Renaissance man!

Last random question before sleeping: what’s the difference between frizzy and curly hair?

Just got my SAT Subject Test Scores …

USH - 800.
Lit - 710 ← fail …

It’s not a fail; it’s ironic.

Those are tremendous scores though, I am just jealous.

I got my SAT Subject Test Score too.

USH - 800.

I only took one and I am so happy because I woke up at 4:00 am the same day as the test and I read through half of direct hits and was super nervous.

@IceQube
710 is really good for Lit. Lit is the hardest subject test by a long shot and congrats on 800 USH

It is, considering how I wrote a Lit guide in the SAT II sub-forum while I only got a 710 … lol.

Congratulations! How did you prepare?

Academic:

Finish my EMT class, and become nationally certified
Work on solos and prep for college music auditions
College essays…? Who cares. Blehhh

Personal:
Lose all the weight I gained junior year, or transform it into muscle
Hang out and enjoy the summer
TAN
Probably something else

Right now I’m taking a break from the online courses. Today is going to be my Calc BC day, so join in and ask any questions, etc. about BC right here!

That’s so cool!!!

This might be helpful for ANYONE in Calculus …

Well that’s a long story. I initially thought I would re-read the Pageant; however, after much deliberation I gave up that quixotic path and instead turned to a more pragmatic path, that is, reading AMSCO. I read through from pre-columbian to 1800 twice, so I had that down really well. Then I read from about 1800 to 1870 and from 1910 to 1950. It is now the day before the SAT II and 11:00pm. Realizing that I was not going to be able to fill the gaps quickly enough, I used Barrons flashcards for most of the forgotten presidents and progressive era; waking up at 4:00am Saturday June 2, I began to read through direct hits; moving quickly I read to 1930 and it was about 7:00am now. I realized there would probably be a few questions on the 1950s - present so I skipped the rest (1930s - 1950s) and read that. I did not finish that, however. In the car across the street from the testing center where my mom had pulled over to drop me off, I said hold on – I read the 1990s - present section (only a paragraph) and jumped out of the car. Turns out that the small paragraph I read (1990s - present) had the answer to a question about demographics that was on the SAT II. I went in to the test center took the test, and walked back home, uneasily as I was not very confident in myriad answers. However, it all turned out for the best.

tl;dr too ambitious – crammed – turned out to be propitious

Oh and that link was very help  thanks for that
