My teacher STILL HASN'T sent in her recommendation yet :(

OK....i gave my teacher the recommendation form on NOVEMBER 1ST to write my reccomendations which weren't due until january. on december 5th, i stopped by to give a thank-you card and asked her how the recommendations were going. she said i was on her agenda for that week and that she wud send them that week. i didn't want to be a pest, so i trusted her and haven't checked back since. i just checked the Columbia admissions status, and her recommendation has not been recieved yet. their application is due january 2nd and school starts back up on the 3rd, so i don't have any way of knowing if she sent it in or not b4 the deadline. my second teacher recommender sent all her letters in and they are all recieved by the colleges.

so my question is.... will the colleges still look at my application if only one of my letters is in or am i screwed if she hasn't sent them in yet, considering most of the colleges i'm applying to have a deadline of january 1st-ish? i'm gonna be really ****ed off if i my application is canceled considering everything else is complete and i gave her the form TWO MONTHS in advance.

Relax...as long as your application and payment is in...the other materials can come in past the deadline.

Don't worry. All of the apps say that everything should be in by the deadline, but the only things that really have to be in are the application form and the application fee. At the beginning of the year, they are just trying to get all of the mail opened and filed. Then they spend many weeks reading essays. If recs, transcripts, or SAT scores come in in February, it is no big deal. Plus if they are missing anything, they will let you know. Some colleges have websites where you can check on the status of your app to see if everything has been received. These colleges will mail you a userid/password once they get your application (and application fee).

Breathe...you're fine.

Don't worry about it, like parikhs and dufus said, most schools accept the supplementary materials after the deadline. As long as your teacher knew when things needed to be sent in, I'm sure she's completed it and done so.

There's nothing else you can do now, so just relax. :)

"so i don't have any way of knowing if she sent it in or not b4 the deadline. "

Doesn't she have a phone #? If she's listed, call her.

Meanwhile, many teachers use Dec. break to write recommendations. If recommendations are a bit late, schools will not disregard your application. Heck, even if applications are a few days late, most schools won't disregard them. It can take a couple of days to get from the college's mailroom to the admissions office. Since most applications come in at the last minute, it also takes a few days to get those sorted and filed. I heard this directly from an adcom.

Good point. Or, if you'd be more comfortable, e-mail her. Most schools have faculty e-mail addresses (and phone numbers) available on the school's website. I need a teacher recommendation for UGA and e-mailed my teacher earlier this week (our break started last Friday) and he got back to me the same day. Couldn't hurt to try, right?

ahhh thanks guys for making me feel better. I'm just one of those people that needs to have everything in order and everything sent in on time and organized. I know my teacher's on vacation now and so am I, and i wont be back till school starts...so if what u guys said is right, i'll just relax and wait till i see her in person
