Hey, I just wanted to know what my chances are of getting into Bing.. (specifically the Watson School of Engineer, I think)
I am a Junior in a fairly competitive public high school in NYC (specialized HS - had to take exam to get in)

I didn't take the SATs yet but I plan to take them in May and June.
I think I'll be expecting around a 550 in reading, 650-700 in math, and low 600s for writing ..

My GPA is 3.56, or 89 (which is pretty low, in my opinion). My school does not rank. I don't take any AP or Honor classes, but I do take an engineering major that my school offers (electrical and mechanical engineering classes); perhaps this would give me an edge to getting into the engineering major in bing? I plan to take an AP in science or math next year.

I don't have much EC but I am a sporadic volunteer for the Red Cross, and I have done some one-time volunteer work that earned me some hours. I plan to volunteer during the summer.

So .. what are my chances with early decision, and for regular?

Thanks!

I'll try to help. I applied EA and got deferred. I have a 88 Avg unweighted and a 1250 SAT out of 1600 (Bing does not care about the writing portion), got great recommendations and did a few EC's.They want to see my mid year grades which are around a 93-94...I still don't think I will get in. I just got done with all my mid-term tests which I scored in the 90's. Spoke to the admissions dept a few times and visited...has gotten very competitive to get in. Not sure about the school of engineering...I want to go for Chemistry.

I was accepted into Albany and Stony Brook already.

if u get over a 1300 out of 1600 on the SATs when u take them... then youll have a good shot... however im not sure about the engineering program (maybe even higher?)... unfortunately ur GPA is whats holding u back... and binghamton doesnt have early decision, only early action... so ur best bet is to go for early action and apply ASAP next year when ur a senior since its easier to get in early action than regular... and the binghamton app is easy so dont worry...

Thanks! I appreciate all of your help!

If I apply early action, and I get accepted, that means I DEFINITELY have to go, right? Doesn't that mean that they won't be able to see my senior grades since I'll get my decision around December or so?

No, that's Early Decision where you have to go.

Binghamton only has Early Action which is non-binding. They will make their decision by December-January. And yeah they won't see your senior grades because they made their decision before the mid-year of your senior year.
