My UC transfer chance?? {Got a W and tend to retake the class in another school? }

HI guys,

During the last semester, I got a W with my ENG100 because I think that my grade leading to Bs or Cs. This is my first semester. I were too new to know how hard it was to get an A in this class at my school. The teachers almost expect a lot in their students, while I’m not a native English speaker.

Now I tend to enroll an easier class in another college. I know English is one of the mandatory courses contributing major percentage in transcript evaluation. My questions are:

1/ Does my W hurt my chance to UC?

2/ Does it raise a flag when I got a W and retake this class in another school?

I am preparing myself to apply for top UC (UCLA, Berkely, San Diego, USC) in the next two years. English classes are my nightmare, while others have no problem with me.

Thanks

The W won’t hurt. However, if English is not your native language, and you cannot pass college-level English classes, you shouldn’t be trying to apply to college programs intended for native speakers. At least until your English reaches an acceptable level. Since you still have two years, I’d say work on getting to the point where you can get good grades in college-transferable English classes without any help.

In general a W isn’t a big deal but the UCs are very attuned to international stidents not being comfortable with English. You really need to improve your English before you go to the college-level required English. They will scrutinize those upcoming grades.
