I have been on the NAPS waitlist since april and just wanted to know who else knows anything about whats going on with NAPS waitlisters? I called the admissions office yesterday but all they said was that i was still on the list and it might not be until the last minute that i find out. Anyone else on the list?

so i guess the letter came this week (im on vacation) and it wasnt good, they said that an unusual amount of people accepted so there just wasnt enough room for me, im still debating if i will reapply for next year but I'll keep you all updated

Never give up. I have been told it was impossible to do many things in my life that I actually was able to achieve. I have been on a Who wants to be a Millionaire(made a few bucks), Met the President of the United States(twice), Had my own radio talk show, owned 2 businesses. Had 4 great kids, met more celebrities(Halle Berry, Tom Cruise, Demi Moore...add 24 others) trained myself and worked my way up the ladder to be an Executive Chef for one of the largest restaurant companies in the country. And much more. This is not to brag (well just a little) but I never said never if there was even a remote possibility to achieve what I was after. All of this and I never finished High School. I got my GED in the Navy and the rest was just plain old hard work and stick to my guns. The Moral of the Story is IF YOU WANT IT GO GET IT!!
Find Out what did not work in your application, improve on those items and go for it again. Hell if I believed my high school counselor said I would still be pumping gas at the Shell station. Get involved and be a person of your word. Make your own opportunities. Keep asking and you will eventually recieve.
Do a random act of kindness for a complete stranger. I firmly believe that what goes around comes around.

Attitudes are contagious, and I wish everyone would catch yours, xchef!

I agree with xchefmike and would add that you must define yourself; don't let others do that. Make your own luck and create your opportunities. You may even bypass NAPS and go straight to USNA!

On another note, how's our canine friend xchef?

Sorry for your disappointing news. It hurts, for sure.

Let the wound heal, consider your options and what you genuinely feel called to, be sure a year is only a blip on the calendar of your life, plan your next step, then take it well. What we know for sure is that you are definitely one top-shelf young person who will only be better in a year's time. Plan your campaign for whatever you determine should be your course and go after it with a sense of determination.

Know alot of people are very impressed, proud of, and confident in your future. Don't let them or yourself down.

And when time and perspective allow, be thankful for this brief setback ... you are guaranteed to be stronger, better for it all. Blessings to you and let us know of your success.

Thank you for all of your kind words, I already started my reapplication and will be looking forward to getting through the whole nominations process all over again. On the bright side USNA said that I don't need to redo all of my application with them since they already have it from this past year. Thanks again everyone!

Get that in writing, joe. It is not their normal procedure. Except for DodMERB, they normally require a complete resubmission.

Congratualtions on your decision. I am sure you will not regret it.

well i had it in writing until my sister threw away the letter on accident but i already called and requested another letter because i too found it odd.

I believe you will need to resubmit an application- minus the DoDMERB, which is good for 2 years- the rest has to be resubmitted, unless you are 1. already at NAPS or 2. are a foundation-sponsored candidate.

Best of luck, and congrats to you that you will be throwing your hat into the arena again!

ps.... what I would suggest is making note on your new application that you were "selected" for NAPS but placed on waitlist....

obviously there is something they like....so reminding them of that is, IMO, a good thing!

joe, the more I think about this, the more convinced I am that navy2010 is correct. You submitted an application. The merits of that application placed you in the higher end of the unqualified scholastically category. Those are not laurels upon which to rest. You gotta hit the ground running this fall and give them evidence that you have proven yourself anew.
