Naps

When you graduate NAPS, you get a nomination from SECNAV.

In short, if you graduate NAPS, you get into USNA.

Sparkledust, if you got an appointment to USNA, then you can't go to NAPS. You don't need to.

Besides, why would you WANT to?

Are you taking the ACTs tomorrow? Is December the last test you can take them? This would be my first time ever taking them (besides the practice tests).

Well, whether if you go to NAPs or directly to the Academy, hope you'd be there anyway!

Yah, a lot of people told me that it was a hard school to get into. For me, I'm grateful that USNA is giving me a second chance. I've been through a lot doing the best I can to prepare myself for the Academy. God Bless! (I don't believe in luck)

sorry everyone I meant to say i recieved my appointment offer to USNA Prep Academy and that I have at 25 in english and math, but need like a 28 or higher inenglish or math to be considered competitive for the 4 year plan, but you do get an appointment directly to USNA after graduating from NAPS right? I looked at some stats about 20minutes ago and not to many people are accepted to NAPS, thats cool. about maybe 300 total to rep. diff. academies.

so....you're taking the ACTs tomorrow?

no it's not too late to take the ACT you can take it again in Febuary according to one of the coaches at the Naval Academy. She also said that they take your highest score from math and a verbal section (read, english, sci.) and you have to have a 24 or higher to be considered for naps or above a 28 or higher in each category to be considered competitive for usna, but you also can take the SAT and say if you get an acceptable math score from the SAT, but not ACT, and an acceptable Reading english or math score from the ACT, they will take the top scores from each section, regardless if it's one high score from the SAT and one high score for the ACT. does that help?

Thanks, that helps lessen my anxiety :). I only scored a 630 in math and a 570 in verbal...I guess my math is okay on my SATs but I'll wait and see for my ACTs

Sparkledust,
I wish you luck on the ACT. I accepted my appointment to NAPS last month and i have not had any second thoughts since. Forget about all those people picking on you. I've been getting picked on at my school 1. because the other two who have been accepted got direct appointments.
2. because i'm a small person
But all these reasons give me the incentive. I am constantly proving myself to others, but at USNA/NAPS, we are a team. I will not have to prove myself, just getting in is the hardest part.
Anyways, i'm rambling, but just remember, pray about it, think about it, and then sign those papers.
If you do choose to go to NAPS, you will make lifelong friends, to say nothing of the fact that you will be trained as a leader in the world's most mighty fighting forces.

Keep in touch,

Rosa

My two cents: I can't see how anybody can pick on a kid who was appointed to NAPS. We had a girl last year at my son's school who received the appointment and everybody was thrilled for her. When her school was announced at graduation everybody gave her a standing O. You should all be very proud and joyful at knowing you will be going to the Academy, as long as you keep working hard and perservere. Congratulations and good luck.

NAPS. Awesome. Think of it this way. They can't fit all the kids they want in USNA classrooms. They gotta put you at NAPS/Foundation until theres more room. Their way of telling you "You have what we want". The honor is the same. Hats off to all the kids going to NAPS or Foundation this year!!!! Congrats!!

I have been praying like every single day to go to USNA. I was like GOD if I get in some how I am definately going, but along the way I've had soooooo many obsticles with my application. Like especially my medical Exam, they say my dates from my medical exam aren't valid or something like that, but yet they have recieved my completed paper work from my physicians regarding that I have completed all of my exams. The dates, so right now, my medical status is pending, here is what USNA deans office wrote to me in my letter yesterday.
"WE ARE PLEASED TO ADVISE YOU THAT THE ADMISSIONS BOARD HAS SELECTED YOU TO ATENT THE NAVAL PREP ACADEMY (NAPS) AT NEWPORT, RI IN THE CLASS CONVENIG JULY 2006 IF YOUR REMAING REQUIREMENTS ARE COMPLETE"...

at the bottom of the letter they checked the medical qualification box even though I have taken the HORRIBLE AND VIOLATED exams last month. What I found out they had to make me go through on the medical exam made me angry and contemplative, but I went through with it. I had problems scheduling the appointment for like 3-4 months and now CONCORDE says my dates need to be approved. I'm getting that taken care of now, but the CONCORDE and DODMERB lines are hard to get through.

My, how things have changed.....

I don't remember getting my letter to NAPS until about March or April of the same year I started, and it wasn't "conditional". You were either in or you weren't.

Reckon they may have been losing people to other schools who approved earlier.

OMG! That's exactly what I got! I'm done with my DODDMERB stuff except for one more thing I have to complete on Dec. 19. Sweet, we are going to be classmates! Did you write your initals next to I ACCEPT on the certificate of intent to attend NAPs?

naps06: please tell me that was not a real goat! :(

It was, but i'm not sure that he really shot it, i think he taught it a trick or something. I don't know if they would go that far.

Trust me, going to NAPS is thr right thing. They prepare us militarily and academically. Im taking physics, chem, math, and English. Im dang good at drill too. OIS is in a building right next to us and us as NAPS students know more military things than they do. Trust me, going to NAPS has been worth it so far.

LOL! You ain't kiddin'!

I remember our I-Day at USNA. They formed us up and moved us out. Not marching, mind you, just walking down the passageway in a column of twos.

In less than 10 steps we were all in step and marching proud, keeping cadence just with the sounds of our boondockers hitting the deck.

The 2/c looked at us funny and asked, "What, do you guys march everywhere?" to which I answered, "You have no idea, sir."

It was awsome!

Have you been saluted by any Captains yet?

We were! :D

I talked to a friend who is the offensive coordinator for Army, but graduated USNA in '88, and he said he did not go to NAPS, but wished he did because they were so much better prepared. So i'm pumped.

Traitor!

i know, but his dad (who is the head coach) graduated from VMI and spent ten years in the army. He was really bummed about the game though.
