has anyone been notified about an interview for residential?

nope thats why I was asking.

keep praying guys....good luck to all...

Isn't it a bit early? I probably won't be expecting anything until April.

hey i applied nasa sharp plus commuter (do all locations have the plus program?.. its more business oriented) i was just wondering when people expected to be notified for interviews?

Alright, the NASA SHARP site has its applicant pool listed (to confirm that they got your app)... interviews should start soon.

OK, it looks like about 1,450 people applied for residential. Assuming that 20 applicants are selected for each university, the chances of being accepted are about 140 in 1,450 or 10.36%. Good luck to all!

10%? Wow, I didn't expect the admissions rate to be so low!! Haha maybe I was too naive in the beginning...good thing I applied to more than one summer program =P

They narrow down the applicant pool before they interview you.

dam yo thas a LOT OF PEOPLE, LOL AND THEREE MAD ASIANS haha, yo do they tell u in advance if u get an interview or do they jus call u up and ask u questions spontaneously?

Nah - calling up and asking questions spontaneously woudn't work as sometimes, students may be away from their homes for a few days at a time. I know that MUN regionals are around the time finalists are notified of an interview.

Besides - it'll be cruel for those who were sick.

I wouldnt mind if they called up and asked some questions....however..I doubt they would do that;they can never be certain if you will be there...

from my understanding, they will call you up randomly to ask you questions... i was in it last summer, and when they called me, i was in the shower, so i came out w/mascara running down my face in my towel and did my interview right then. lol.

James Strandquist called me for my residential interview and asked if it was a good time. It wasn't (I lost my voice earlier the day) but we had to reschedule for later in the week. I called back two days later, since the guy had a deadline. I still didnt have my voice, but he was very understanding.

wait, so they DID begin calling?

tettyk is 18 years old though - is he referring to last yea?

Yeah, for NASA SHARP last year, I got called at a bad time too. I think I was out all friday night and I was sleeping in on Saturday when he called me at like noon-ish. I was half awake but I still did the interview, I thought it sucked but I still got in.

atlonmj,
What did the interviewer ask? What did you end up doing in Nasa Sharp? What did you feel was the best part of the program?

What will you do this summer?

My interviewer was Mr. James Strandquist. He asked me stuff like "Why are you interested in NASA SHARP", "What do you feel you will get most out of NASA SHARP". "Could you explain what math/science activities you do", etc.

I did NASA SHARP at Cal-State LA. I worked at Boeing Satellite Systems in the propulsion department. I ran tests and compiled a big guideline book for future propulsion engineers. Best part of the program was definitely the people. Now that I look back on it, the whole experience seems so surreal. The other sharpies were so nice, cool, and different that we all got along really well and had a wonderful time.

I actually wrote my personal statement on NASA SHARP (the people aspect). I'll email it to you if you PM me your email.

I'm not sure what I will be doing this summer. Probably some sort of job to pay off my student contribution portion of finaid. A lot of internships require me to be 18 and I will only be 17 :( so that rules out quite a few opportunities.

athlonmj - do you remember which weekend this was?
also, did you apply to any other summer programs along with SHARP?
thx
