so aha i have a question. do we wear nice clothes every day? like black pants, suit jacket? or can we dress more comfortable? because it is an internship so i dunno

I really have no idea why I got accepted either. My stats weren't that great but I think it might have been that they saw how excited I was about the STEM fields?

I also study a martial art, taekwondo. However, I do more of the sport taekwondo and it takes up nearly ALL of my time. I practice like 10-15 hours a week and I didn't really have time for any science or math extracurriculars.

To answer your question, elusivestranger, I think it says stuff about the dresscode in the handbook. I think we're expected to dress pretty nice, but I'm not sure so you might want to check the handbook.

I think first day on the job we're expected to dress nice and the rest of the time it's more casual. Your apprentice manual and college info should give more specifics.

hmm i never got an apprentice manual, maybe i will at orientation? thanks.

I think the Apprentice manual might just be for residential because it had a lot of rules about dorming and stuff like that.

I still haven't gotten campus information though, has everybody else gotten theirs already? I'm thinking of emailing Mr. Strandquist maybe because I heard there is a lot of important information including the schedules, what to do at the airport, etc.

I got my college information via e-mail from Cal State.

9 days until most of us leave for SHARP :)

I can barely wait, so excited!!!

So... On the SSP thread they were talking about what to pack and I thought it would be a good idea if we all pitch in a few ideas of special stuff to pack too. I've started packing tonight and I really don't know if I'll fit everything in my suitcases!
So stuff that I'm thinking of bringing besides clothes/towels:

iPod with speaker dock thing (I love it!!!)

Lots of pictures

Lots of memory for my camera

Starbucks Cards (I'm a true Seattlite)

Some other cool stuff I can't think of now

once again, what are your people's stats?

Since SHARP started for some people two days ago, does anyone want to comment on their experiences so far?

that would be neat..

Ok... So I think we probably should start making a list of what to bring...
Photo identification, clothes the (3)? forms, asprin/medicines, camera, bathroom accessories (toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, shampoo, soap), money, laptop (maybe), bathing suit, ipod/cd player...

I'm sure I'm missing some stuff! Add to the list please! Anyone else bringing a laptop?

hey, im at the NC site right now. its been a pretty good experience so far. this site is okay; although i think cal - state would be a lot more fun. although everything is different from site to site, do u guys have any questions?

what were your stats like? What are you studying?

i had all As at the time in honors & ap classes. as for science activities, i had some previous research experience. im also on my school's science olympiad team & have won individual medals/recognition at states and nationals. outside of science, im part of mock trial, model un, go to music school during the weekends & some community service clubs in which i had leadership roles. i was really surprised that i got in b/c my stats & interview weren't really that great. plus, im asian & so many other asians applied. i guess being a female helped though. im currently researching biodegradable polymers.

I hope all of you participating in SHARP this year have a great time. I did SHARP last summer at UMich and I had an excellent summer. It was fun for the most part and the research was really cool. I did stuff with atom trapping. I would reccomend bringing a laptop if you have one...you can pay for internet connections in the room so you can work after curfew. Oh, and don't worry if you forget anything...there are weekly trips to the local walmart-ish store. About 6-7 of us got into MIT and a few others into Caltech and Stanford, so I guess it does help in the college admissions process. Good luck and have fun!

Somehow I think I may be the only 2005 Sharpie who hasn't started SHARP yet...
